That's a good idea, sadly I live in the middle of nowhere. There's an Indian restaurant in town though, I wonder if I could ask them, they must make a mint!

I have sold a bit of silver here in the past, so I have a positive seller ranking, but @Silverlocks I wasn't aware people had shifted that volume before.
I don't think swapping for gold is feasible, as most people have no idea it's value. Though I've heard of this happening in the US.
I think this does seem the best option to sell a larger volume from what you're saying. It's good to keep in mind.
P.S. I'm a mere peasant although gold rich, so what's the situation if you suddenly had tens of thousands appear in your bank account?

So someone mentioned some property to me, and it occurred to me that I have approx. that much in gold. This got me thinking hypothetically, and for real for many folk, what's the most financially efficient way of liquidating £20+ k of gold? Mostly CGT free.
I'm curious what you guys think, or if you have done this before. If you have, what did you do and what would you do differently?

I’m pretty certain I’ve read a thread or post on here, where someone did exactly that. Tried briefly using the search to look for it and couldn’t but did find this small thread @AndyC44

£20k is a tidy sum, but I don't think it will ring bells at the bank when depositing. Withdrawal is another matter! 😟
Perhaps spread it over 2 or 3 banks?
A member here once sold 10+ kilos of gold to a dealer and was surprised how easy it was to do.

Do you have Indian jewellers nearby? As most Indian jewellery is 24ct, my experience is you can walk into pretty much any Indian jeweller and sell your items very quickly at around spot.
Also, friends and family have been surprisingly great for me (my 1st go to now) - both sides benefit if your prices are realistic.

I've seen it happen quite a few times.  Depending on the nature of the gold it shouldn't be an issue.  Sovs will shift here pretty quickly; they're very liquid.  1oz coins have a smaller market, but if you offer them at the right price they will sell, and the difference is only a few percent.  Other small coins  or fractional ounce gold will sell pretty quickly.

Don't see why that would be an issue but if you're concerned... Could you sell in a few batches?
That way you also expose yourself to multiple price points too and 'average out'
If you're going to need to show the money in your account for eg as part of a deposit on a property or something similar and sols will need to do AML type checks I could see merit in the money coming in from a dealer in one lump but if you had to explain multiple smaller transactions from various buyers perhaps worth keeping a record of transactions

Quick option... Check the online dealers and see who's paying the most. Money in a short time and less work on your part. Likely to realise spot or just below.
More time consuming option but potentially a few % more £ to you, selling on the 2nd hand market for eg on the sales area here. Realistically priced things can sell quick although there seem to be a few less buyers about at the minute

Maybe swap the gold for the property.

I've seen people shift 50 or 100 sovs here in a few days, so once you get yourself established here it should be quite feasible to sell 20k of gold.  You will probably get more for it than you would have gotten for a dealer.
The market is a bit slow at the moment, so you might have to price it a bit keener than you would otherwise have liked, but I dare say you would still get a better price than a dealer would pay.
Get at least a silver membership, though, as your account will be a bit hamstrung for sales if you don't.

Easy enough to sell on here! If you have that much and you’re not a dealer, then chances are you have bought over some time. That means that you no doubt bought a fair bit at what now looks like a very good price, not saying you have to price low to sell, however, look at the prices on here and you can be competitive, depends how quick you want to sell?🤔😮
