1999-2002 Silver Proof Piedfort £1 Heraldic Emblems Set   It is all too easy to believe that, in repeating the identical designs as an immediate follow-up to the 1994-97 set, the Royal Mint merely displayed a startling indolence within its product development department. That, however, would be to ignore the cynical contempt in which it holds its customers and the cursory eyebrow which it twitches in the direction of numismatic innovation.   It was in 1999 that I decided to never again buy anything directly from the RM - a move which has saved me literally thousands of pounds over the last 25 years. The overwhelming majority of RM silver releases offer a return on a par with that available by buying a new car from a showroom. Collectors of Piedfort round pounds should be aware that buying sets can be as much as 30%+ cheaper than buying the individual coins in today's market.   That being said, I do like these designs, especially the 2002 three lions of England, one of my true favourites amongst the 33 different reverses minted. I am still looking for a few years should anybody be able to assist - notably the 2009 and 2014 shieldbacks.

The 2013 1oz Britannia. The 1st 999.9 (24 karat) version. For 1 year only they used the dimensions of the silver Britannia so has a larger diameter than all other 1oz Britannia’s produced. The strike isn’t amazing but one to have in the collection due to its unique size in the Britannia series

A real rarity just back from grading, and a far better result than I could have hoped for.

    So...why so rare?
Although this coin has a mintage of 2002, something happened in 1968 that resulted in most of these coins being melted for scrap 😱. The price of gold rocketed by over 22% in a short period of time, meaning the scrap value would have been too attractive to resist...So into the melting pot they went!

So far, this is the only 1967 to be graded by any grading company, and I am only aware of one other known example, and that is held in very tight hands.

Thank you so much to @terakris for parting with the Reverse Proof Libertad.

I could never tire of the beauty of the Winged Goddess of Victory.
She looks fabulous sat next to the two other Reverse Proofs, and better still with the wider México 1/2 Onza family.

    Like buses these gold coins...
Finally pushed the button (on @TheCoinCabinet) and got myself a Gold Newton 50p in 70. Been pondering for some time and ended up siphoning some funds from my house extension building project to make it happen. Also seeing the updated RM sales figures for the coin being 371 in total (single + in sets) expedited my decison making.
Now part of my science 50p series to go with Hawking's and Franklin.

    Third time lucky...!!!
The first 1879 20 francs coin I bought from France, was returned as it was junk grade!
The second 1879.....................I bought from France, is still lost in West Africa!!!
Congratulations 😃 here go to ATS Bullion, who have sourced me one, and an 1871, and they have arrived! (Anchor, not barred anchor)

I think it’s worth giving ATS Bullion a bit of a special mention here....
I have used them in the past, and their customer service has been better than ANY other dealer I have used.
The above two coins only cost about 6% over spot plus postage...for UK buyers that knocks seven bells out of the big dealers over here!
The best bit..I emailed them a ‘coins wanted list’ last year, and they kept it...! I got an email out of the blue asking if I still wanted the coins on the list, as they now have some in stock..what fantastic customer service.
I have now sent a revised list to them and a big thank you 😊.
Its not often I give a free plug to a dealer but on this occasion they deserve it..
