Gordon got a reaction from Griffo in 2014 Mule Sovereign - anyone know how many of these error coins were minted?
They are brilliant uncirculated coins with the frosting on one side only (As the royal mint intended them to be) I have sent more than one of these coins for grading and they always come back as PF coins

They are not error coins. They are the brilliant uncirculated coins miss graded by ngc and pcgs. I have the 2014 double brilliant uncirculated sovereign coin with the frosting on the st gorge side only and i sent it to numistacker for grading and he had to return it back to them 3 or 4 times as they kept putting it down as a pf70 instead of ms70 i have the coa that says its a brilliant uncirculated coin but ngc have it down as a proof. Send a 2014 brilliant uncirculated sovereign to ngc and it will come back as a pf not a ms coin

Gordon got a reaction from TutoredSoup232 in All! Beware of fake gold graded coins in fake holders
I was talking to a guy a couple of weeks ago about gold and he showed me a photo of his gold stack and he had a fake 1oz gold ngc graded coin in there that i could tell was fake right away. So i let him know that it was a fake. But he had the coin to long to return it through ebay so i told him to open a case with paypal and i think he got his money back

Got sick of watching gold go up and up. So just ordered 20 sovs to add to the rest.

Thought I should mention it so you can all prepare for the huge dip coming.

This is an interesting thread so I will add my little story.
I collected coins since I was a kid. I like the intricate design of coins and its history. My collection at the time were mostly British pre-decimal and world coins.
There was a local coin shop in my town back in the day. So when I had spending money, I would pay them a visit and buy silver and anythings else of interest that I can afford. I have all the coins from that time, including a nice 1820 George III silver crown, a 1889 Victoria silver crown and a pristine 1915 George V half crown.
My first gold coin was a 1982 half sovereign. This was when I had a part-time cleaning job after school. I remembered walking passed a coin shop in Central London and saw some shinny sovereigns behind the window. I think it cost a princely sum of £25.
After starting a family, I had little time nor funds to continue my hobby. Back then, I viewed coin collecting, whether in silver or gold simply as a hobby and not as a way to preserve wealth.
I started waking up to precious metals after the 2008 financial market crash.  I got burnt investing in the shares of the company I worked for !
I was still reading up on the financial markets in the evenings until ISIS came into the living room. The British Brainwashing Corporation (BBC) and ConJob4 (C4) would have you believe it was a civil war.  But nothing made sense on the news. How can a small faction of fighters and Jihadi John can defeat and outgun a national army of Syria with tanks and fighter jets !  After much reading and research on alt-media, namely Zerohedge, globalresearch.ca and many other platforms, I came to understand it was a conflict over money, power and control. If you control oil you control nations, control food you control the people, control money then you control the world !  The New World Odor as some would say !
After many months of research, reading, watching and listening, I got to understand these two famous quotes :-
    1.  "It is well enough that people of the nation do not understand our banking and monetary system, for if they did, I believe there would be a revolution before tomorrow morning" - Henry Ford
    2.  "Money is Gold, and nothing else" - JP Morgan Testimony before the Bank and Currency Committee of the House of Representatives, at Washington, D. C. 18 & 19 December 1912.
After this waking moment, I withdrawn my savings and exchanged them for the shinny stuff. I basically continued with my hobby !!  LOL !!
    That's it. My short story !  😎

With my first day off since the lockdown, it's time to tour my favourite antique centres looking for silver under spot, that the dealers haven't got round to changing the prices to reflect the recent up in price.

So far, three sterling silver sugar tongs, total 139g for £59. So thats about 20% under spot.
    Onto the next centre......

There is a simple explanation for the thickness / roundness effect, which I will go into later, but if you strike a piece of flat metal with more force, it will compress more, but the squeezed metal has to go somewhere; it tries to escape through the collar and milled edge, hence a deeper raised rim, with more sharply defined ridges; this might also partially explain the shiny effect.
I have taken measurements of some of the sovereigns, and we have more photos to follow. This might be better in its own thread, and will also find its way into a Chards blog page. The above is a crude phone photo to show Doug what is required in a pro version.

    600+ QEII Gold Sovereigns

Just after we started putting some into bags.
When we received these, they were almost all junked together in one bag, so almost all have slight scratches and bagmarks. Sad really!
