For me personally, it is gold at the moment.
I believe the premiums being charged on silver, plus the VAT makes it far less attractive than gold.  I may well be wrong, but that's my thoughts as it stands now.
I would rather purchase 2 x sovereigns with the money over a kilo of silver.
Is it a one time investment, or regular (as and when funds allow) purchase?  Are you looking to purchase as close to spot price as possible, or will you be more attracted to the numismatic (collecting / collectable) side of things?
Ultimately, people on forums will have their own views and opinions.  Read widely, take your time and purchase what makes you feel happy 🙂

Norskgeld reacted to SilverStorm in New Product on the Market: The Pocket Pinger Coin Tester - Updated
I came across the Pocket Pinger on YouTube last night, and found it quite interesting.   The inventor (?) claims you are able to detect real vs fake by using this device.   Check out the website link below, he shows a demonstration of the product:

Coin Ping Test - Sound Money Metals

2 YouTube videos that demonstrate the Pocket Pinger in action:
Stack Stick - Limited Supplies Available at Launch - YouTube
Ping Test - The Shiny Pingy Fake - YouTube

My initial thoughts on the product:
Pro: Cheap and affordable testing device.   Quick and easy test to determine validity of the coin or bar before you buy.
Con: May not work perfectly with 9999 (as per inventor's comments in video).  Need to be familiar with pings and be able to hear the different frequencies that relate to valid metals.  Does not replace other testing methods to confirm validity of precious metals.
As the product is currently at the pre-order stage, I have no way to determine if this product works as well as the inventor claims.   Based on the videos alone, there is no reason to doubt his claim.  This product is ideal if you buy 2nd hand coins or bars at your local coin shop, or you are browsing at a car boot and something catches your eye.   Since I predominantly buy brand new uncirculated bullion from my bullion dealer, this device isn't something I really need.   But I may get one just for the novelty of it all, as well as having another tool in my toolbox for testing precious metals.   What do you think?   Is this something you are interested in getting?

Local pawn broker - sure if you are happy to get about a third less than intrinsic.
ebay - sucks! - too many dodgy buyers and sellers.
BbP? If they happen to be down the road from you maybe, but @ChardsCoinandBullionDealer have been around for much longer, and almost always pay better prices.
In case you were not aware, I will declare a close connection! 🙂

OK, I gave in and bought a LMU coin.
I know I usually buy Napoleonic coins but this appeared and I got it for a good price given the date - one for the pension.☺️
I just have to not buy any more!

I was a coin collector for years and to be honest I can't tell the difference between an MS63 and an MS64, to say nothing of MS69 to MS70, I truly believe the minute levels of 'accuracy' half the time are very much subjective from one person to the next. I guess in many ways that's because growing up with the British system it was much broader, VF or EF kind of boundaries you had to distinguish between, so more obvious, MS63 and 64 were all bracketed under UNC and sold at the same price!
I long gave up buying coins based on grade, in fact I don't grade coins at all now when I buy them, for what few I occasionally buy, I simply ask myself - does it have the eye appeal that I am looking for?
If I like it I buy it and stuff the grade, cos you know when you come to sell it, a dealer will buy it from you as GF and then sell it on as AVF anyhow!

Wouldn’t touch it with a barge pole.
    1) why would anybody offer a 3.5% discount on gold today vs spot price when it is so liquid and easy to shift anyway?
    2) why would a producer sell you gold at an 18% discount to spot when gold futures are trading at a premium to current spot out to dec 2022?
Doesn't smell right - steer well clear!

My personal opinion for what it's worth - run!
Quick DuckDuck search shows which Company it is and they're selling paper that claims to be redeemable in two years for real stuff.
Could go into lengthy discussion about counter-party risk etc but if you were stood next to me in a pub I'd point you toward the nearest bullion dealer and safe installer.
I'm sure others have different opinions regarding these types of operations but for me, there's only ever one party that makes out on this and it's not the consumer.
    Good luck.

I've had a good read through their initial pitch and my opinion is the same.
I'd rather have a £7,500 hole in my bank account and 5 shiny yellow coins than a £6,000 hole and a piece of paper that says I can collect some shiny from a Company that may or may not exist in 2 years time!
