  1. Lovely Victoria Jubilee Set. Thanks @ilovesilverireallydo
  2. I had been looking for a suitable presentation solution for my Maundy collection thatโ€™s housed in Quadrum Capsules and found these โ€˜Leuchtturm Volterraโ€™ on eBay sold by Dauwalders. A Nice way to display coins in Quadrum capsules.
  3. @Gordy Yes- but not inspiring enough to list anything- I donโ€™t get the โ€˜winning feelingโ€™ eBay cite ๐Ÿ™„
  4. Lovely condition ๐Ÿ‘ But not too keen on the Silver colour of the Bar top left.
  5. Thanks @lxy70713. Iโ€™m sceptical of the latest editions of Spink/ Marsh in terms of them both quoting a 323 mintage of this, but itโ€™s a lovely Plain Edge Sovereign whatever the actual number is.
  6. Yes, I'm old enough to remember Ratner's statement and don't see the relevance in this argument either. I also agree with @Richym99 the product offered by Chards is very clear and as Lawrence has stated, there are barriers in place that re-iterates to the buyer what they are purchasing making it crystal clear. Given my current position and what I buy, this product wouldn't be for me however, I can see the value and rationale for someone purchasing Gold this way- and I would trust Chards wholeheartedly to deliver if I did buy the product.
  7. As you stated- not very good photos, so difficult to tell. Presumably itโ€™s a London Mint? For a guide, I recently bought a MS62 for ยฃ455 shipped from the Coins of the Realm last auction.
  8. You'll have to ask the new owner of the 1989 Bu- I sold it a little while ago to help fund my 2017 5 Coin Sovereign Set. I think you are absolutely right, it was a fair price for that Crown, there's not too many that attractively toned and in that condition. In terms of your Crown, I guess in the intervening 5 or so years you have learnt a great deal about coins, so you would likely not buy that coin over again, but you will be in pole position now to seek out a bargain when one comes along. Yours is still a lovely Crown and it certainly won't be worth any less.
  9. Agreed it looked like a fabulous example- it was the ยฃ1100 price tag that was the stumbling block that prevented my clicking the buy button! ๐Ÿ˜‚ Worth every penny though, do you think? Imagine owning a nice portrait set of Crowns around this grade/ condition.
  10. And also today, some fantastic coins have arrived back from NGC Firstly the Gold Three Graces is a fantastic result for my eldest son, he was a very lucky young man acquiring this ๐Ÿ˜‰ And finally, after well over three years of owning these 2017 Libertads I finally took the plunge to sort them out sending them back to NGC! ๐Ÿคฏ- the 1/4 and the PF69 1/2 Onza were on Brown NGC labels so now swapped into the Mรฉxico jackets so they sit uniformly with the remainder. The most exciting return however, was the Raw 1/2 Onza I consigned that has achieved a PF70 UC- I now have a 5 Coin Set of 'perfect' 2017 Libertads ๐Ÿ˜ƒ Take a look at the close up's of the PF69 Lib at the bottom of this post- answers on a postcard to enter my prize draw of why NGC decided this Lib wasn't worthy of a 70 ๐Ÿคฏ (The prize draw is a lottery, not unlike the 69/70 NGC coin Lottery ๐Ÿคฃ)
  11. My three sons are all young men now- aged 20 years through to 24 and all have taken an interest in PM's and owning them, my youngest the most enthusiastic he has some lovely coins- Gold and Silver, he recently flew the nest but left the hefty 10oz Beasts here with us, I'll ask him to take a couple of photos of his stack๐Ÿ‘
  12. Beast-tastic! Nice arrivals, firstly I have to admire my youngest sons tenacity in keeping up the momentum of collecting the 10oz Beasts, the latest arriving from Chards, he only has the Greyhound to go ๐Ÿ‘ And I am extremely grateful to @SilverMike for him being so kind to pass on to me the 5oz Queen's Beasts Proof Completer coin for the issue price. Out of all the recent modern coins the Royal Mint have released, this is my absolute favourite and I was so disappointed when it sat tantalisingly in my basket on release day, only to see it disappear when the RM's payment system crapped out, thank you so much again Mike ๐Ÿ˜ƒ the 1oz and 5oz Little and Large look fabulous together ๐Ÿ‘ And below there's 10 reasons why this well thought out coin design will remain perennially popular ๐Ÿ˜‰
  13. Nice idea, thanks. But I think my next project will be Silver Crowns or perhaps Half Crowns- Iโ€™m undecided I was so pleased that this one sold, my finger started to ache hovering over the โ€˜buyโ€™ button for hours on end. ๐Ÿ˜‚ I hope it went to a good home. Fantastic coin this one:
  14. Congrats. Lovely lustre. Great pickup this one, thanks for sharing ๐Ÿ‘
  15. Thank you. I agree, the 1817 is lovely, and is likely the most valuable currently. Itโ€™s conservatively designated MS62, I bought it pre-graded. @SilverMike continues to encourage me to have my 1937 Sovereign and the remainder of my 1937 Set graded to take the subjectivity out of their condition. Mike has appraised it and believes it might hit an Ultra Cameo and I guess in this scenario itโ€™ll overtake the 1817 as the most valuable. I guess thereโ€™s only one way to find out! But I do prefer my coins raw and as issued. My favourite Sovereign out of them all is the 1817; my favourite Portrait is the 1821 George IV but the most satisfying purchase here was the 1836 William IV as it looks far better than its AU55 Grade and it was reasonably priced.
  16. Stunner- looks a good 'un The dust is obligatory from the RM! and at no extra cost ๐Ÿ˜‚
  17. I would keep it Unless you want this hassle? It took them 4 months to replace my Silver Una, although I ended up with a nice one, the same scenario didn't play out the same way for others. I asked you the other day what magnification you used in the photo of the 'hole'- what was the magnification? Tiny pin holes are quite common in Proof coins, and they often grade well. The magnification of the hole in your photo makes it look dramatic- but perhaps its not that noticeable under x5 Magnification?
  18. I wonder if the Bar was made by JM for this company: https://www.cnrood.com/en/our-story @StackSellRepeat perhaps you have come across one of these bars before?
  19. To keep it simple itโ€™s an 18 Sovereign a type set of London Mint and Pontyclun Minted Sovereigns for the later issues. Perhaps in the future I might think about a type set collection featuring Branch Mint Sovereigns- lots of options to consider, Iโ€™ll have to do some more reading- anyone have any interesting ideas?
  20. Eighteen reasons to get excited about Sovereigns. I received a lovely 1863 Victoria Sovereign today and this one concluded my 'Change of Portrait' Type Set from 1817 to present day ๐Ÿ˜… The type set includes all the Portrait changes for each Monarch. I have attempted to acquire the inaugural year date for each Portrait change. All the 19th Century examples are Sovereigns and where practicable, all of the 20th & 21st Century Sovereigns are Proof examples. Over time I will likely try and seek out a nicer example of the 1825 George IV; replace the 1836 William IV with the inaugural year of 1831; attempt to do the same by replacing the 1863 Victoria with a nice 1838 example and for Elizabeth II, replace the 1987 Maklouf Portrait with the inaugural 1985 year date. In the meantime, for those who appreciate them, enjoy the Sovereigns ๐Ÿ˜€ Benedetto Pistrucci Benedetto Pistrucci William Wyon William Wyon William Wyon Joseph Egar Boehm Thomas Brock George William de Saulles Bertram Mackennal Humphrey Paget Mary Gillick Arnold Machin Arnold Machin Raphel Maklouf Bernard Sindall Ian Rank- Broadley Jody Clark James Butler
  21. What magnification was used to take this photo of your coin? I'm guessing a minimum of x10 magnification and possibly higher? Nothing is perfect in this world- not even a 'perfect' PF70 coin. NGC's criteria for a top grade coin is outlined below- the 'hole' you are pointing out was clearly not caused post- production and at x5 magnification will certainly not look as dramatic as represented in your photograph. I would keep it and rejoice in the fact that you were fortunate enough to acquire it, there were only 625 of them, wasn't there? Enjoy the coin, warts and all ๐Ÿ˜€
  22. Sorry @CadmiumGreen, I missed your post- you are absolutely right- the 1st Gillick effigy would have been complimentary ๐Ÿ‘
