I was slightly inclined to get the 2 Oz silver, and potentially the 5 Oz silver, depending on mintage, just to have a token of this series.
However, this wasn’t a coin that appealed to me ever since it was first rumoured on here, and after seeing the Westminster Collection replica today (boring design in boring shiny silver) I’m convinced that, at least for me, this is a pass.
Flippers may indeed make a few % profit in the short term, simply because this will be marketed as part of the Great Engravers range, and those who missed out on the previous coins may try to jump on the bandwagon now. But, as we’ve seen with the Gothic Crown release, that ship has long sailed.
I personally will let this one pass in lieu of the Coronation coins, whose designs I hope will be more appealing, besides being associated with a historic occasion.
In a way I’m glad the RM picked this coin for 2023 as I can let it pass without second guessing myself and continue saving up for the Coronation coins and especially the Coronation Sovereign(s).

Looking at the number of posts about this new GE and the last being a few days ago, it does not seem to carry a  lot of enthusiasm...we are far from the 3G announcement. Does this bode well for the success of this release ?
    Just an observation

I personally think the RM have missed the mark on this.
Maybe it’ll be rare if most people sit this one out. But how many can really risk £££ on such speculation in an already speculative area?

Too many commemoratives, too many specials. It's like pissing in the well, it just spoils the water.

I think many people got let down after the dismal performance of the Gothic Crown.
Also, after the surprise release of the Memorial coin range (including the Memorial Sovereign), the 2023 Annual Sets featuring the KC III effigy, the numerous existing ranges (British Monarchs, Tudor Beasts, etc.) which people have committed to, and the anticipated Coronation coins and Coronation Sovereign, people really have to think seriously about what the heck they can spend their money on.
Besides, the Petition Crown design, in and of itself, just isn’t as appealing as Una and the Lion, the Three Graces and the Gothic Crown were, at least from what I’m garnering from discussions I’m having with a bunch of people.
Sure the original coin has a nice story, but if you’re buying a replica, you’re probably buying it for its design.
I suppose it’s a bit like the Mona Lisa. The original has a nice story, but how many people find it beautiful enough to hang a framed poster up on their walls? 😚

@westminstrel Always a pleasure seeing you go to the effort to post this information  Looks like they can't make their mind up what they are going to mint.....by the looks of it, a £5 pound coronation coin, with it being cupro-nickel something thats likely to be an unlimited run similar to other coronation coins.......Just waiting to see if they do a coronation proof sovereign set.

In the Gazette Proclamation for the British Monarchs - Charles I coin, there’s a strange description given for the cupro-nickel coin which doesn’t match the descriptions for the rest of the denominations.
    It states:
    For the obverse impression Our effigy with the inscription “· CHARLES III · D · G · REX · F · D · 5 POUNDS ·” and the date of the year;
    For the reverse either:
    (a) a depiction three lions passant guardant, being that quartering of Our Royal Arms known heraldically as England and the inscription “FIVE POUNDS”; or
    (b) a depiction lion rampant within a double tressure flory counter-flory, being that quartering of Our Royal Arms known heraldically as Scotland and the inscription “FIVE POUNDS”; or
    (c) a depiction of a dragon passant, being Our Badge for Wales and the inscription “FIVE POUNDS”; or
    (d) a depiction of a celtic cross charged at the centre with an annulet therein a pimpernel flower and overall an ancient torque, symbolising that part of Our United Kingdom known as Northern Ireland and the inscription “FIVE POUNDS”; or
    (e) a depiction of a lion, a unicorn, a stag and a dragon surrounding a crown accompanied by the inscription “FIVE POUNDS”.

These designs seem like something that would work for a Coronation themed range of coins. Thoughts?

Thank you @Paul, A little bit disappointed and I am not quite sure  if I will be in the party for this one, especially since it is again a 2 coins set so a big investment, probably £11k in these trouble times ahead... I still have some time to think about it. It will be a 2oz silver set anyway

If the 5 and double are fine, and the quarter is "special", I would definitely keep the set and try to get a full and a half on the second market  if I want a perfect set. You could also try to exchange with someone else who has a bad set but a good full and half, and want to return it to the RM
Anyway, you could be surprised to get a PF70 for your full sovereign if the defect is considered as a production flaw

For information, for @Paul and all the lucky owners ,  a 2oz gold and a 2oz silver Una were auctionned  today at Sovereign Rarities. Both graded PF69 and sold respectively for £26000 and £1700 (+ 20% fees + VAT). The Una's market still holds up well and this is the great winner in the series and even in all the modern coins contestants !

If the  prices are nice,  It's worth mentionning the differences between a PF69 and PF70 with an amazing 67% premium added for the last gold Una PF70 auctionned in January  (66000$,  around £55000 fees included)
On the other side,  I don't understand why the 3G and GC do not really take off seing the sold price of the last auction for an original 3G above,

Absolutely stunning Paul, for my part, I have received a good four coins set, but an awful 5 coins set with 4 coins out of 5 in a bad condition...and returned to the RM of course. I just hope to get a replacement, (and a good replacement) but it seems to be a lotery !
Have you ordered the £5 BU ? I have mixed feelings with this one. The busy design is beautiful with the contrast of the fields in PF finish , but I am not sure with the matte finish...

Second delivery of the day, aside from the booklet looking as though it was treated with as much care as a jizz rag I think the coins are in good order. I do think the design is ruined on the quarter, half and surprisingly even ghe full.
The big 5 piece is magnificent, the double adequate but truthfully, with it in hand....I'm not a fan. Sad to say after all this time waiting, and I know it's not the concensus opinion, but its too much. The actual portrait of the king is fantastic though

    Disappointing.

My assessment of the 5 Coin Memorial Set I received today:
All the coins have the obligatory sneeze marks/ Welsh dust and some of those hairy strands all of which, I can live with.
The 5 Sovereign has a couple of hairlines on the Obverse- ‘now you see it, now you don’t’ type, and two odd looking circular marks what I suspect are shallow, but noticeable scratches, one on the Obverse in the field at the foot of the X of Rex and on the Reverse in the field at around 1 O’clock.
    The 2 Sovereign looks ok.
The Sovereign is ok’ish- has a couple of shiny specks in the frosting and a couple of pinprick missing bits of frosting.
The Half is similar to the Sovereign and frankly, I haven’t bothered inspecting the 1/4- after all, they aren’t  a Sovereign to my mind.
It’s definitely a very special Sovereign Set, the Reverse design is fantastic and a distinguished Portrait of the King.
If the 5 Sovereign was perfect- I would keep this set, despite the shortcomings of the lower denominations- but there’s 5,595 reasons to send the set back for exchange.
