So I was with my local coin shop dealer yesterday and had a very interesting chat.
I was curious to why he was so stacked up with gold (not so much silver) and at good prices.
He mentioned that this was always the case when gold was on the up or there was some kind of global crisis. Sellers cash in and buyers hold out expecting a correction. Once things settle down he says buyers then come back in, as they realise this is the new norm.

However what he then went on to say was quite interesting. He said during the 2008 financial crisis, it didn’t matter wether it was a gold proof, graded or of Numismatic interest (unless very, very rare), he was paying bullion prices and people were accepting. He went on to say that PM’s are not on the up because the world is all rosy. He was of the opinion that even at these levels it was good to buy, as when the SHTF scenario arrives (which he doesn’t feel is far off), then it will literally be unaffordable to the masses.

My initial thoughts were this was only in Portugal and then I remembered Tim from the Yankee stacking youtube channel saying something similar a couple of years ago.
So what are your thoughts? Do things need to be really, really bad for this to happen, or will indeed the majority of gold being proof, numismatic or graded be the same as bullion? I guess if you need the money you’ll take what you can get 🤔

I have spoken with my RM Account manager (no, I don’t have one) and he has offered me the Gold 2oz fresh from QC. He was extremely excited to offer me this opportunity. What do you think is best- left or right?
Get ready for another 70 graded me thinks!

Well I’m a long time lurker but decided to create an account to finally have my day on this. I have an account manager at Royal Mint, I spend a lot with them every year. And this is what I received as my 2oz Gold Pistrucci…… the wonkiest edge I’ve ever seen on a coin!

Needless to say I went a bit bonkers at my account manager. I was also one of the cancelled 5oz Petition crown customers so I had a fair amount to say. Not sure I have an account manager anymore hah! But seriously £5.5k for that? Seriously close to giving up with RM

I know the grade will make some of you cry but I don't mind at bullion prices, particularly for this design!

I have been offered £975 for my 5oz silver, I think it was a fair offer, but as I like the coin I turned it down.

Okay so I am probably in a 0.1% minority here, but I actually really like some types of production imperfections.
The collar / edge imperfection on this coin, for example, is one that I actually like.
To me, such flaws are a manifestation of coin minting being a physical art, a tiny little proof of a craft that has inherent challenges in its execution.
It lends uniqueness to each coin, making them not just one of a multitude of machine-made, cookie-cutter products flying off a production line.
And most important, they don’t really take away from the beauty of the coin.
This is just an opinion of someone who likes antiques and the imperfect nature of handmade products.
I totally understand the opposite point of view though - after all, beauty lies in the eye of the beholder. 🙂

I didn’t even set an alarm for this release my account manager is on the phone every other week offering me this rubbish then the next load of rubbish I asked to reserve a 2oz gold and guess what nothing. I’ve decided if she can’t offer me the coins I actually want I’m not buying anything from them. Just like Rolex I’m done with them.
no hard feelings I’ve got watches I’ve got proof gold coins I’m sticking with bullion for the foreseeable future.

Tell me this is not one of the sexiest golds to come out of the RM in years?  Just look at it, it's stunning.
The 10oz silver is going to be very interesting if the raised edge lettering is in scale with the coin
