I haven't yet.  I used some isopropyl alcohol to remove the smudges, while wearing nitrile gloves.  I gently tried to wipe the alcohol away but just ended up moving smudges around.  Though some of it came off.  I'll try the baking soda idea.

I added two more gold coins to the stack.
Another $5 gold commemorative from US Mint (approx 1/4 oz), this time a 1997 FDR.  Previous owner had handled it with bare hands and got fingerprints all over it.  That irritates me to no end.  I tried to get them off but only smudged some of it around.  Whatever; I knew it and got it for spot price with free shipping.
The other one is (again) yet another run of the mill 5 peso coin (approx 1/8 oz).  It has some copper spots on it but no biggie because I got it for 7% over spot.

An interesting vintage bar. Cascade Refining. Just got it off the forum. They didn't make many of these odd weight bars.
The serial number on the bar is the date when it was cast so in this case the 14th April 1989.

I'm the opposite in that I much prefer gov't minted gold coins. They're already "money" or were already used as money and in recognized and understood denominations. And they're more durable and easily stackable.
My preferred gold are older Mexican and US coins in the 5 peso and 5 dollar variety, and they're all .900 gold. I think only one of my gold coins is 24k and it's a commemorative US Mint issue. I don't have any bars or tokens, only coins.

The details in Victorian era coins are amazing. I'm often amazed at how a talented artist can pull detail and dimension out of a small essentially two dimensional medium.

Bought these from my local bullion dealer in town. He checked both in front of me with his XRF probe and both came up good. One being an 1881 San Fransisco mintmark and the other an 1883 New Orleans mintmark.
Whilst I was in there he told me I was lucky to get the 2.5 gram gold bar I bought the other week for £100 as he thought it was only 2 grams. He never asked for the difference though.

Beautiful coin! Keep it, just buy more gold. 😎
I have one too but it's not from a shipwreck as far as I know. But it does have chop marks, so that's kinda cool too.

Not too terribly exciting but I added another 3.6 ounces to the stack, uncirculated 1962 vintage, fractionalized of course.
I think I got a pretty good deal too, at about $35 per ounce.

The 1/4ozs will in Theory appeal to a wider audience when it comes time to sell.
The 1/4ozs will come at a premium over the 1oz but you should be able to get that premium back over time.
My opinion is to get the 1/4ozs inside the locker first.

RacerCool got a reaction from Bigmarc in Removing silver from electrical contacts.
I don't think it's that easy, just melting them down.  Look up sreetips on youtube.  He's a jeweler and he has tons of videos on how he melts and separates precious metals from things like electrical contacts, junk metal, etc. It involves various chemicals and multiple processes.
Then again he often tries to separate gold from various alloys so maybe it's the gold that's the difficult metal. But silver seems like it takes a lot to separate from other metals.

Yep, exactly. As an American I've wondered over the years whether the official stories we're told, the American mythology, are true or how true they might be. You know, the stories of George Washington, Paul Revere, etc, etc.
Some of us wonder if there was any actual independence or if it was just another scheme by the royals, and if the DC Capitol is their London 2.0 or whatever, and it's just a new version of the East India Company.
    If that made any sense...
