I am creating this thread to invite TSF members to ask for advice on their precious metal photos.
If you would like help to improve your photographs, this is the thread for you.  I will do my best to provide ideas.
Typically advice may include:
Settings on the camera. Techniques. Postprocessing on a tablet or computer. Equipment that will help to get to the next level. I am doing this for free, out of my own time.  Please respect that.  I have no intention of making any money out of this, either directly or via affiliate links, etc.  If you want more detailed coaching or postprocessing of images, we can work something out.
Here are some 'rules':
1. Please include at least one photograph that you have taken.
2. Please describe the circumstances of the photograph, i.e.
Camera / phone. Any settings other than the default.  If you know things like exposure settings, that would be very useful. Handheld or tripod. Lighting. Anything else useful. 2a. Optionally, it might be useful to describe your photography experience level.  This will help me to pitch my answer and provide useful information without wasting your time.
3. Ask specific question about what you would like to improve, or what you are trying to achieve.
4. Feel free to comment (courteously) on other people's posts.  I am certainly not the only photographer on here that could contribute.
5. Please otherwise keep this thread clear of other comments.  Unless you are submitting photos for improvement, or commenting on someone else's photo on this thread, comment somewhere else.
Finally, I have no intention of shaming or ridiculing people's photography.  Everyone is at a different level of skill, available equipment and time, and I respect that.  I ask that everyone else does likewise.

A lot of sovereigns do get melted down, if they are underweight, unattractive, worn etc as it simply not worth the grief selling on as bullion for some to complain, the  time taken up in dealing with a compliant, return shipping is not with the small percentage on the coin……taking about coin dealers….rarities are checked. 
most jewellers I know will not offer anything close to spot. 
 
There is a gold shop near me with a right “wide boy” dealer,  he’s trying to sell scrap and under weight sovereigns for spot + 10%.
I was in there in my scruffs,  and once he finished his spiel……I gave him an eduction on sovereigns🤣
 
 

Jewellers will use the melted gold to make jewellery, the mark-up on that will massively eclipse whatever you offer them mate, been there tried that and only ever found two jewellers that will sell to me and both do it cash only
I was in a jewellers in Lichfield on Saturday and asked if they had any sovereigns, the lad (owners son) told me his Dad keeps them all.  I asked if they buy and he said yes for £280.  I said don't you mean £380 and he said no.  I told him that was over £90 under spot and his response was that the premises were expensive to keep (ignoring the fact they do not sell on the sovereigns).  I basically told him they were sharks taking advantage of the unknowing and that Atkinsons (which is in the next town over from Lichfield) offer spot on most gold coins which he flatly refused to believe.

If buying deffo go & view them as there are quite a few problem coins floating around. I got a set recently with a friend which we viewed & paid 13.5k for. We did grade them to flip & nearly doubled the investment. I have also seen 12k sets purchased & be worth about 10k

No gold in the house, just two years worth of silver 🤔

The lighting is really c**p at the place where I have my deposit box and I hadn't got my coronation set back from grading yet.
 
Modest by some standards here but not bad for about 2 and a half years. I do love my queens beast collection as that was a chore to collect without massively overspending.
 Not too far away from a kilo, I would be there by now but my recent forays in to proof have impacted on 'weight' as a priority.

Well...some might be upset but I'm not. Gold going down means even if I save 1 quid directly from the Royal Mint - it is happy days for me. 😂 I got gifts to buy and coins to stack! The moon can wait!

Unsure if anyone cares but the reprint of the charizard Ultra premium collection has caused its resale to fall. I believe its well worth a buy and hold strat. If not you can crack it open with 3 promo cards and grade them.
