Blimey, £500 per head for a Christmas dinner. I’d rather cook my own and do the washing up for that price. 😆
Does that include a room for the night?

It beats fighting for "freedom and democracy" half way around the planet over black gold and rare metals.
This war is real, and it's existential. Israel is completely united for the first time in my life.
Hamas and their puppet masters really should fear the sleeping giant which they've awoken. Hamas were clearly hoping that the hostages would fracture the people of Israel, that they would be paralysed by infighting and indecision. The opposite has happened. How this newly awakened giant sets about destroying Hamas is anyone's guess, but it's clear that they're not going to stop until they're secure again. They won't be stopped by lying media, or by articles from the BBC journalists and their ilk taking sides with terrorists. And the lack of outrage by many of Europe's new citizens, has given clear eyes as to how important it is that they find a solution themselves which will last. Hiding behind technology and iron domes has failed. Allowing the UN to feed a crocodile has failed. Something else is being considered.
Perhaps Iran will be brave and stupid enough to get involved, but I'm really not so sure. The US has signalled the strongest ever support for Israel in history, from the Democrats no less. Vast military power is already the region, and more is arriving every day. It would be extreme folly to play the 'f about find out' game, and ultimately I don't think this conflict will actually spread too far because of it. Bigger players know that this is not a hill they want to die on. Some will be happy to see uncle Sam embroiled in the middle east again, but they won't want to waste much of their own resources in the fight.
Gold might break up above this $2000 area, even boosting another £100 - £200 or so in the short term, but by Christmas, I expect to see an understanding that this isn't going to end in nukes at dawn, and gold will probably head back down again. Perhaps this price point will become a new base for gold in the first few months of 2024. This war isn't going away any time soon, but the threat of an all out extinction conflict is also not as high as some might imagine.

The falling value of fiat will make the gold price increase year on year.
Eventually one of two things will happen, currencies will collapse or they will be revalued. I suspect the latter and CBDCs will be a very good smokescreen for devaluation - $100 will be worth 1 digital credit.
Voila gold goes from $2000 per oz to 20 digital credits per oz.

2002 Gold Proof "Three Lions" £1 Coin Unpopularity be damned. I am an admirer of these Round Pounds, regardless of whether or not they are currently de rigueur. I see these coins as having excellent potential and - even if I'm wrong - buying RM proof gold coins at spot including RMSD represents outstanding value. 18g agw CGT-free to boot. This is my second 2002 (the inaugural gold pound, issued only in the RM Golden Jubilee Collection), the first being a 69-graded mortuary-slabbed specimen which is now demoted from "collectable" to "stack". @Colnago @MancunianStacker @dicker

UK inflation data is due out tomorrow morning I believe as well. If that comes in lower it could cement the opinion that the BoE is done hiking and the pound could slip further.

I think this is good news from ebay. Just received an email that from the 11 October any jewellery sold for more than £500, you can post directly to ebay who will authenticate and post on to buyer. Any returns goes the same way. This will stop scammers posting back a Christmas card or a swapped item.
I wished they would include gold coins.
A step in the right direction and no extra charge to the seller

Actually these days I can. I think made in Taiwan is pretty darn good. Whatever you're connecting on right now, likely had the most sophisticated part inside it made in Taiwan. I'm less and less confident of manufacturers like Boeing. They really seem to have dropped the ball lately, with the 787 batteries catching fire a few years ago, then the 737max being out of CofG and requiring a "secret autopilot" to control pitch, which ended up causing a number of fatal crashes which they tried to blame on pilot error, to finally the Dreamliner space craft failing to get to orbit on its supposed first human rated flight. Very luckily, NASA insisted that they carry out a full test flight first, so when it completely messed up, at least it didn't put the lives of a crew at risk. It required 80 serious modifications before another test launch, which is not exactly confidence inspiring. All these legacy corporations seem to have become money machines rather than centres of technical excellence. The Taiwanese by comparison, are chasing excellence and fair play to them.
