  1. I think the first three in proof were quite lovely and not that high a mintage? Who would buy this? Dreadful.
  2. As well as other points mentioned, some folk with gold stored at dealers are cashing out to some degree (and the sum is very big, even for very big dealers). This isn't the dealers' routine business flow and if they can take profit now (or even get rid of this surplus) they will. Once there is a 'new normal' (that phrase rings a bell!) premiums will follow as soon as dealers can get away with them.
  3. It's far, far more than that...Kooks are well prized, and so they should be!
  4. A very welcome thread indeed @motorbikez thank you! We have many avid collectors of Kooks here, and some of us (like me) are trying to work out what is worth what (both for buying and selling). Looking forward very much to this thread and what we can share, and I expect @motorbikez has a lot of knowledge and experience with Kooks, this could (and should!) be a very valuable resource to us devoted Kook hobbyists
  5. I think the panda privies (Chinese Expo) and lunar privies are pretty straightforward (not too complicated/not too many years released) and relatively easy to track and collect (?). The 2018 year of the dog privy is pretty cool and unique for me as it removes a major part of the original design (the moon). I have some of each panda/lunar (recent years) I'm keen to work out the value of and maybe sell some. Definitely, and would love to see such a thread!
  6. For some reason I don't see Atkinsons on most of the 'compare' comparisons (?). This is the link I have saved. I'm sure it varies but I found them cheapest last year at around 1.6% premium on pre-owned 1ozs, which is very good from a major dealer (could find cheaper on here or other groups, but do your due diligence on the seller ofc). https://atkinsonsbullion.com/gold/gold-coins/1oz-gold-coins/pre-owned-2023-uk-queen-elizabeth-ii-britannia-1oz-gold-coin?pid=27445 @Cubic with your intention of a regular purchase I would speak to a few before you buy too much, and make sure you have a super helpful account manager/contact in place
  7. This is a great time to hoover up good quality, recent proofs at not much more than bullion. What more needs to be said except you have to have the cash of course!
  8. What a lovely thread to revisit! Anyone got a 2006 at a fair price?

    SOTD sovereigns

A large minority of the 2018s suffered from 'capsule failure in transit' when first released and arrived scratched, sadly. I returned a fair number of them before ending up with a couple of great examples that I was happy with. A rare coin in a decent grade forever I think, and back when SotD seemed to mean something (following the magnificent Pistrucci 2017, many folks missed this one - they were pretty off-radar at the time). Let's put it this way, he can't be much more unpopular in the US than he is here, and after all you did take Harry 🤣
  10. I would only personally attempt that kind of negotiation via smoke signals
  11. Wow, fantastic pictures!!! I think the somewhat divisive 'one leg' 2018 is a bold design personally, and one of the bravest of the 'classic' format (such as that 2014) before the redesign (lovely coins but not in the same league for me). I also believe the 2018 is a 'first' for two reasons (always happy to be corrected!). Firstly that the design of the Kook crosses the border. Secondly that one privy issue at least completely removes a KEY aspect of the design (the moon). From memory I think it was the year of the dog privy (?). I am not sure as my coins have been in storage for years, but whatever it is it's notable imho
  12. Wow, what an incredibly kind giveaway by @stefffana @theman73and @ryanwinter73 Ticket #49 please!
  13. I have a few 2020s...not desperate to sell any, and completely unsure what a reasonable price or trade is unfortunately!
  14. I have most of the first series but it's in storage, was that Niue as well? If so, isn't this kind of a second series (?)
  15. I've had a nice and interesting chat with @bean182 The 2017 bar #6 seems to be a bit of a mystery if anyone can help!
  16. Hi @bean182 I believe I have TSF 1oz bars 006 from 2020 and 2021. The CoAs are here, along with the bars, but sorry the light is not good enough for my old eyes to double check the actual stamping on the bar as the sun sets! I probably have 2019 and (less likely) 2018, but I haven't been able to get to where my bars for those years are stored yet to check. What happened I think is that I was lucky enough to pick up numbers 5 and 6 (and some others) a year or two after release. I chose to sell 5 and some other numbers in 2020 because I needed the money at the time. Last year I wasn't able to take up my bars, so I guess you were lucky enough to get the very first number available, great luck! I should say I am not particularly inclined to sell these years at the moment, but you are welcome to PM me if you'd like to discuss things
  17. The last time I looked the Mint said that BUs are struck 3 times, and Proofs are struck up to 6 (and of course you would expect more attention to the dies, and to QC although we know that can be hit and miss to say the least). Whether that's actually the case or not I've no idea. With the 2017 I agree it's indistinguishable in quality (and the 'error' CoA didn't help! 🤣 ). So I think we can put that down to the Mint making them just like a Proof - the error Cert certainly suggests some serious internal confusion! My 2018 Sapphire Coronations are a bit different, definitely almost proof, but a lighter strike. Slightly more subtle (less contrast) than a full proof, very elegant in a way, and that's why it's one of the favourite modern Sovs I have (most eye appeal for me) I only have the 2017 and 2018 so can't really comment on any others, except that I just personally wasn't attracted to the Mattes.
  18. The 2018 Sapphire Coronation (Marsh and others - I assume they use those figures - say 323, which is a very definite number, I'd love to know where that figure comes from @GoldDiggerDave!) was a strange case. It 'sold out' fairly quickly at the Mint, but not by the crazy standards we've seen since 2019. It wasn't that hard to get them from certain dealers that are not so commonly mentioned on here. The problem was the caps, all came off in transit, in some cases causing damage. Because there was no problem getting replacements from the aforementioned sources I returned a handful before I got ones I was 100% happy with, but in hindsight I was being super picky because of the capsule problem, and wish I'd kept one or two more, as I now believe this one is a 'name your price' coin (or soon will be, within reason of course - personally I'm holding long-term). No idea what happened to all the returns, or why the stated mintage is so low. Maybe the company I dealt with sold them at discount to their employees (they were pretty clueless) and the actual mintage is higher than Marsh thinks (?).
  19. Oh no, so sorry and very sad to hear this buddy, wishing you all power, strength and very best wishes to you and your son at this most difficult of times ❤️ We will try to find you something special 🙏
  20. It's when they go back and change the list price for coins that were instant (or pretty much) sell-outs when the next coin in the series is released that is most despicable imo.
