At the risk of boring you, I am going to post on this thread articles and photos that reflect on the beauty and value of gold through the ages. 
 
I am particularly interested in treasure wreck gold finds because the artefacts recovered are so frequently discovered in mint state despite being in the sea for hundreds of years. 
 
To start, I thought it would work to post a link to the 1715 fleet society which documents the remarkable find of the below bird on the Florida “treasure coast”.   This find is all the more remarkable because eventually both wings were found.

I was having a look at the Gazette this morning and did not see anything, should be soon though !

The only way to know that the coin you submit is the one you bought, is to do it yourself, end of.  It’s really not that hard. Fill in a form and send it to NGC’s London office or walk it in if you live close by. Easy!
someone mentioned coin swapping earlier. Any coin could be examined and swapped with another “in stock” before they give you your NGC number. If they want your coin they can take it. It’s not 100% fool proof

Thank you for your well detailed response. Given your/other members advice I’ll use coins of the realm.

Word of warning
 
 So I got pissed off waiting for my return...honestly the whole experience has just soured the whole thing for me and started reaching out to see if anybody wanted my 5 coin set.
 I called the mint today to see how long it would be for my replacement to arrive and was told that it has been refunded and the money was in my mint account! Now I filled in the return form saying I wanted a replacement, when I spoke to them a few weeks ago I again confirmed I wanted a replacement, I even got the email to say my replacement was delayed...what the hell is going on at the Mint?
 Between this and my experience with the phantom gold gothic crown I'm totally pissed off with them. Customer services are lovely people on the phone but it does seem that they are actually pretty useless at their job.
 So yeah, now I have to wait and see if they **** up sending money to my bank account 🙄 
 At the end of the day I no longer really wanted the coins so **** it but if you are promised a replacement just remember that promise means absolutely nothing.

Sigh, finally got my full sov from RM - no foam padding and you guessed it, cap had popped open in transit. Gutted. 😞
 

Well, good work to all who emailed. Looks like they’ve listened and created a simple solution.
Also, my coin looks perfect. Very happy.

Got straight 70s from PCGS on the entire submission! wow never so lucky before!

Recently noticed on the NGC pop report that 105 2022 five coin sets have already graded 70 and 1 set at 69 ? To get numbers like that on all five coins they must have been cherry picked.
Wonder when and where these will show up and for what price ?

Unfortunately the Royal Mint model has changed considerably over recent years. Their interest in private collectors has dwindled with time and their priority is with big spenders, bulk buyers and associates and i have seen this reflected very clearly by my account managers over a period of time.
You can fully understand this business model because at the end of the day it is all about money, just a shame that collectors have been sidelined as a result of it.
