CatStudent reacted to dicker in Gold coin advice - Single 1oz, Sovereigns, or multiple fractions…? 🤔
Personally, I would be going for whatever has the lowest over spot.
If you can get Sovs it makes good sense.  They are easy to liquidate on the forum and elsewhere.
1oz seems a little harder to liquidate.
As an example - look at @CatStudent’s recent sale.  Well priced and a large number went incredibly quickly.
Always a winner and personally my favourite design since Victoria Sov ceased to be minted.

I agree with you about 99%.
You may have already seen this:
    https://www.chards.co.uk/blog/krugerrand-gold-content/507
And I seem to remember posting about it on TSF.
Cupelation worked just fine, but can be ever so slightly destructive!
Assay Offices do use multiple methods, for different reasons, which reinforces your point.
It is probably more important though, for users to have some understanding of how their equipment works, and what its limitations are.
I have also noticed that there is a growing level of suspicion bordering on paranoia, probably because there are now so many YouTube videos, and threads on TSF and elsewhere about fakes, that people who get an unexpected reading from their testing device, that they immediately believe they have a fake, rather than think that it may be a quirky result from their favourite, and probably newly acquired, testing equipment.
At the other end of the spectrum, we hear of dorks who buy "silver" bars or coins via ebay, for less than intrinsic silver value, and fail to engage whatever vestigial brain matter they have. We have also encountered people who have bought "Krugerrands" from pawn shops for about £5 each, in the hope that the pawn shop has made a mistake in labelling them as imitation or gold plated.
Most people have eyes and brains, acquired free of charge at birth, but like any other testing equipment, no good if you forget to use it!

No they aren’t secured loans. I am also small time so no loan has ever been bigger than £15k. Its more just in my head if I lost my job I have X amount of gold to sell to pay the loan.

The UK does have a constitution, it just doesn't have a written constitution.

     https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Constitution_of_the_United_Kingdom
The Constitution of the United Kingdom or British constitution is the system of rules that decides the political governance of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Unlike in most countries, such as the US, it is not codified into a single document. Thus, it is known as an uncodified constitution. This enables the constitution to be easily amended as rules are not entrenched.[2] However, the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom recognises that there are constitutional principles, including parliamentary sovereignty, the rule of law, democracy and upholding international law.[3]

All of that stuff is based on observable and measurable data, yet it is still speculative.
The guesstimates of how much silver is left on earth is based on the we have discovered to date. Without a full geological survey of the globe, with technology we don't have yet, all the way down to the core, how are we meant to know how much there is.
Remember that the way they test for gold and oil in lots of places is still with a drill rig.
Silver is regularly found as a by-product from other mining activities(ie gold and i think copper ect). Places will have higher yields than others. Not everywhere has been surveyed and to what depth is a different question all together.

Damn, we got science & technology that can predict when the next earthquake about to hit, predict how far continents will move apart in a million years time, land on the moon decades ago but we don't know for sure now how much silver we got left 🤨. Maybe the pirates back then knew more than us where the treasures are lol.

How many tonnes is not important, it is how much would it costs to mine and refine that silver?
    https://www.bullionbypost.co.uk/index/silver/amount-of-silver-in-the-world/
"...there is a vast 530,000 million tonnes remaining below ground."
Great but if it is all at the bottom of the deepest oceans or 25 miles under the ground and it is at low grams per tonnes - it is not worth mining. There is gold in seawater - there is a lot of seawater so a lot of gold but it isn't worth extracting.
    400 million ounces = 12 500 tonnes.

The surface of the sun can be observed, silver deposits cannot. You can speculate but not know 100%, also how much is reasonable to get to, if there's stuff at the bottom mariana trench then forget about it for now.

For those playing gamestop, they should take their profits and run. WallStreet (the casino) will let them have this lucky battle win but wont let them win the war. Not a chance. They have trillions at their disposal and will crush the gaggle that are reddit and WSB.

Obviously if you take the literal meaning, but for me my "stack" and my "collection" are very different:

    STACK:
    - contains bullion coins, with mínimum price
    - I add coins in lots of 100s ozs
    - its target is in the low thousands of ozs
    - it is stored hidden in non accessible location
    - and the most important: it is payed with family money as investment

    COLLECTION:
    - it contains premium coins, from series, with average price twice spot
    - I add coins one by one, or just 2 or 3 each time
    - its target is in the low hundreds of ozs
    - its stored in beautiful wodden display boxes
    - and the most important: it is payed with my personal money as enjoyment

Honestly, many of the "stacks" I ve seen in these threads are, under my point if view, "collections", but it's just another opinion.

Not really. To me a collection is something you keep, and possibly hand it down to your kids and grandkids etc. It's something that you find difficult to "let go", so to speak. With a stack you have items that you wouldn't blink an eye when it comes to selling them. My "stack" is my pension policy, it's what I intend to live on in my old age. I don't see the point of filling it up with nice collectible coins that it would be a wrench to sell. It's why I want to separate my "collection" from my "stack". It's also why my collection is going to be fairly small in money wise, it will be added to ONLY at a price that falls into a range that i think is cheap, and if it takes me 15 years to complete, then so be it. I'm also looking at picking up bullion proofs, Brit's ASE's etc, as well as the RAM Roo's. Again ONLY if I can pick them up at silly prices, which may appear once every 3 months or so. These will be what I hand on when i shuffle this mortal coil. My stack will be spent in the sun drinking cold beers
