14 thumbs down for a charity appeal?
Sadly for them, they've inspired me to send in payment for 14 more tickets! 🙂
Thank you for doing this despite the trolls.

According to this BBC web page:
What is the least valuable British coin ever?
    https://www.bbc.com/news/business-48153442
    By Anthony Reuben:
The farthing was the smallest coin until 1960, except for a 27 year period in the mid-19th Century under Queen Victoria, when there was a half farthing.
Even the half farthing never dipped below a value of five pence in modern terms.
To start with, I think their title is slightly ambiguous and misleading, and think "What was the lowest face value British coin ever?" or "What was the lowest denomination British coin ever?" would have been a more accurate title.
But then, the body of the article is wrong in stating that the farthing waw the smallest coins until 1960. While it was correct that there was also a half farthing, it completely ignores the fact that there was also a third farthing, which was, of course, smaller and lower valued than either the farthing or half farthing.
And, the third farthing is not the smallest, as there were also quarter farthings.
So, here is a third farthing:

    and the obverse:

There are some signs of a die clash on the reverse, and also an interesting die crack on the obverse.
Just out of interest, I did a Niton XRF test on this coin:

    Which shows:
    Copper 928
    Tin 48
    Zinc 16
    Iridium 7
    All ppt (parts per thousand).
Even the good old BBC don't always get things right!

That’s nothing, I was watching Dickinson’s Real Deal a few weeks ago and someone was selling sovereigns to the dealer. But that’s not it, it gets much worse.
The dealer then picked up one of the sovereigns and what he said next nearly made me cry, I don’t think @LawrenceChard should read this. Ever. 😆
He said, oh god, here we go, it’s bringing back a bad memory. He said “So we have some gold sovereigns here” as he held the reverse side to the camera, he said, “Here we see Britannia on the horse”.
It ruined my day!! Absolutely ruined it. 😬

Just donated £275 (would have done it last night but was dead to the world after a particularly energetic Squash Match!)
So, small miscalculation on the total, we are actually at £1395
Lets keep it going and onwards to £2k

    UPDATE - 25th March 2022
OK, we have the bars back from the assay office!
So, they will be winging their way around the country over the next few weeks and we will then be in a position to name a date for the draw to happen.
In the meantime I want to get the entries rolling in so that every few days we can make a nice big donation to The Red Cross
All the information about the charity can be found here:
    https://donate.redcross.org.uk/appeal/ukraine-crisis-appeal
    ENTRIES ARE NOW CLOSED

1x 1oz silver coin (to be determined at a later date)
    ONE PRIZE PER PERSON MAXIMUM
We are going to limit one prize per person to get as many winners as possible.
Winners will not have to pay for any postage/shipping
Winners will, however, be responsible for any import charges for delivery to their home country.
    DRAW DATES
At this time we do not have a specific time for entries to close by and the draw date to happen.
My best estimate is that we will be able to draw the winners in week commencing 11th April 2022.
As soon as we have firm dates set for this we will communicate out here on the forum.
But I felt it would be a good idea to get the entries rolling in so that we can make donations every other day to The Red Cross sooner rather than later.
    LIVE DRAWING THE RESULTS
I will be hosting a livestream on YouTube to draw the results using a random number generator. Exact details of this selection process will be shared in due course.
If anyone has any questions or anything else they want to know about this please feel free to ask here or PM me!
    Thanks all!

While looking at the Wikipedia page about Ukraine a few days ago, I noticed their coat of arms was a trident:

Alex Khristov Design: Wasyl Krytschewskyj - Drawn to specifications from http://search.ligazakon.ua/l_doc2.nsf/link1/T213700.html
Lesser Coat of Arms of Ukraine, the so called Tryzub. A stylised trident symbol in gold on a background shield of blue.
Which made me think it would be interesting to show Britannia holding a Ukrainian Tryzub (trident) instead of her traditional one:

While this is OK, it is perhaps too subtle, and too easy to miss, so:

I think that makes a visually stunning design, and would clearly signal British support and solidarity with Ukraine.
Somehow, I can't see the Royal Mint going ahead with it, though.

    UPDATE 16/3/22
    Hey Everyone!
We had an amazing amount of donations come through in both physical and cash.
With the cash I calculated £25/oz would be the price to pay for cash donations.
I am happy to say that I have managed to source some melting silver today for £21.65 per oz!
This means that instead of the predicted 27.75 oz of silver I have managed to source 32 ozt instead!
Assuming all the physical donations arrive this means we will actually have a total of 52 ozt worth of silver.
I have poured 5 big bars and submitted them today for laser hallmarking, their weight worked out to be about 48 ozt.
So, I intend to have the remaining silver, approximately 4 ozt as part of the giveaway in most likely coin form that I will choose from my random box of coins featured on my channel.
That means there will be most likely 9 prizes!
    5x big bars
    4x 1 oz coins!
More to come in terms of the raffle and entries.

    Howdy all!
We have an exciting new project that I am happy to formally announce in partnership with some incredibly talented UK Silver Pourers .
@StBeesSilver @RiverbankSilver @SilverAngel @LiquidMetalsUK @AtomicSilver @GeordieStacker and myself are going to be creating a collaboration Silver Bar to raffle off to raise funds for The Red Cross Ukraine Crisis Appeal. @ChrisSilver Has approved this to be managed and run via The Silver Forum, a big thanks for that!
We are looking at adding additional UK pourers too - any new confirmations will be shared out here on this thread in due course.
The Red Cross Appeal is a very worthy cause right now and one that will bring a lot of much needed aid to a lot of people.
    https://donate.redcross.org.uk/appeal/ukraine-crisis-appeal
Check them out and please feel free to donate outside of this raffle too!
Now, we are working out all of the particulars and this thread serves as STAGE 1
    STAGE 1 - Adding Weight - 1 week
Each UK Silver Pourer is donating 1 ozt of silver but we are open for anyone else to donate additional oz's of silver to make more bars and bigger bars.
The plan is to get up to 50 ozt (this is a decent weight to be posting in one go around the country) and have 5 or 6 bars of 8 to 10 ozt each.
So, if you would like to donate an oz of silver then you can do so one of two ways:
    1) Please DM me (Backyard Bullion) and I will give you my PO Box address where you can physically send your silver. 999 fine silver only please and preferably coin form
Option 1 is only available to UK based members.
    2) Purchase an ozt of silver directly from me to be added to the pot. I will be sourcing silver coins from the forum to add these to the pot, a good guide right now is about £23 per oz.
Option 2 will be best for NON UK members to donate silver - no long shipping or Import tax issues.
At the end of Sunday 20th March I will know how much Silver we are working with and I can pour some big boy bars for us all to stamp!
    STAGE 2 - Hallmarking - 1 Week
We plan to have a big feature laser hallmark applied to these bars. As big as we can get that fits well and shows off the wonders of UK Hallmarking
    STAGE 3 - Stamping - 1 to 2 Weeks
After Hallmarking is done we can all add our logos and stamping flavour to the bar(s).
We have 6 pourers confirmed right now, that might increase so getting it posted around the country might take a week or two.
    STAGE 4 - Raffle
The exact date of the raffle closing and draw will depend somewhat on the timescales from the above.
We plan to have tickets cost £5 each with as many entries as you like per person. Entries will be payable to me (Backyard Bullion) with ALL proceeds going to the Red Cross Appeal after the raffle closes.
Multiple bars means multiple winners so the more silver we can raise in week 1 the better.
MORE DETAILS TO FOLLOW IN DUE COURSE
This is all an evolving project plan but because of the time it will take to get these bars made we wanted to start the ball rolling right now.
I will be sharing more information about the raffle tickets in due course.
What YOU need to do right now
If you would like to get involved by donating an ozt of silver (or more that one single oz!) please let us all know by sharing here or DM'ing me for details of how to donate or send silver.
