    @Wonger
@sixgun is the forum nut-job, the position has already been filled.
He is also very well read, highly informed and respectful to those with differing opinions. He will always back up/quote his sources.
He is also wrong on many topics but we don't need to open that box today. 😉
Enjoy sparring with him but expect a bloody lip 😁

Check this out next time you're tempted to let someone else hold on to your physical for you.  I only had a small amount with them and for fun took delivery of it about two months before this happened.  I'd never held any physically before and decided it would be fun to look at.  I was completely oblivious to what happened shortly after until I found out six months later.  These things go down in near secrecy and the sordid details get hushed up.  Strange because it was so well known and had been running a totally legit business in physical for a long time.  Seemed to have state level support with outlets in big hotels etc with their own minting and branding.  Close call for me and I will never forget the lesson.  When banks and large institutions go under the little guy is always last to know and always gets the shaft.  There is no state protection for him no matter what is implied.  Ever.  And that includes your bank account if SHTF by the way.

i was very surprised to see the leave vote win in the referendum. Indeed i thought it almost impossible. i think a big miscalculation was made. HM Government distributed a pro EU leaflet to all homes costing more than the Leave campaign spent in total. The BBC and the rest of the controlled media outlets pushed Remain pretending to be unbiased. The BBC cannot be unbiased. One of the B's stands for Biased. i think they miscalculated - i expected the ballots to be rigged to guarantee they showed a remain outcome.
Since then the propaganda outlets have constantly pushed the Remain and second referendum narrative. i think it is backfiring - the public are sick to death of it. i believe a fairly run second referendum would show an even bigger majority to leave. Theresa May knows her days are numbered but she can be remembered as the prime minister who took the UK out of the EU. Assuming the UK actually left that will be how she will be remembered. If i were her i would ensure the country left and then retire.
Cancelling Brexit will cause big problems for the politicians who cancel Brexit. It will potentially cause a serious split in the Conservative party. Whether it would be enough to cause the dissenters to break away is another matter. May could not survive and then we could well see a pro-Leave leader appear. There would undoubtedly be political chaos.
A lot of Labour MP's will not get re-elected come the next election and if a new party, a revised UKIP with Farage at the helm emerged, we could see them taking a lot of seats.
This was always going to run this course as soon as the Leave vote won. The negotiations were always going to be bodged. There was always going to be sabotage tactics. There would always be attempts to drag it out and extend the process up to infinity if possible. The control propaganda outlets were always going to spin the Leftist lies. If the UK escapes every attempt will be made to destroy the country. The EU is on the edge and a success story for the UK will be the killer blow.

The price for metals can and has been below mining cost price in the past.  It can also remain well below mining cost for an extended period of time before recovering.  Silver is a classic example of that with the pumpers forever claiming that mine supply is limited due to mothballed mines etc. and that stored supply above ground is running out but then it just keeps going for what seems far far far longer than is possible if those previously established truths are true.  A lot of disinformation and mystery surrounding actual inventories and usage demand.  In the end though you are right.  Eventually the price has to rise when it all runs out and new investment is needed to get mines up and running again.  It's just a question of how much time you can bear waiting for this to happen.  I've been reading about and keeping an eye on silver for 9 years now and it's certainly an interesting subject.

Indeed.  Call me old fashioned but you still have the same old conundrum that if you don't hold it you don't own it.  Years ago I was fortunate enough to take physical delivery of the very small amount of vaulted silver that I owned.  A month later they ceased trading and everyone else was told that their physical never even existed.  Ouch.  That lesson has remained with me and I will likely never buy any form of PM other than physical.

I buy silver coins because i like looking at them holding them and generally like opening my safe and thinking that looks good. i dont have a out strategy. just buy when i see what i feel is a bargin or silver price is low.
When i die kids will open safe and think how much can we get for that they wont have any idea what i paid so when they sell it will be a brucey bonus nothing else they wont care weather silver and gold at all time high or low

Agree with above. Also, this is not only an EU problem - here in the US many states have residents pay sales tax on their silver purchases. It's not as high as VAT, but if you are someone who is looking for a vehicle to store wealth, not to generate it, this is a huge issue. If a person went to buy any other investment that promised inflation adjustment only with risk of loss and they wanted 6.25% of your principle (tax in MA, USA) + premiums upfront, most people wouldn't put their money there.

on a more serious note, I may or may not be right but at least
I've given a time and a price for my predictions. (so that people
can count exactly the times that I've been wrong). this I believe
is better than those who choose to constantly lead people
round and round the mulberry bush.

As you can see by my highly complicated graph that I've drawn some meaningful lines on, silver went down a bit to 2016, did a loop-de-loop in early 2017, causing it to go back in time briefly. It then really took off using the momentum of its loop-de-loop and is currently off the graph somewhere heading for the moon.

If silver got anywhere near $4, physical buying would explode like a million mega tonne bomb. How many 1000's of ounces would you buy? Could you stump up enough to buy 10k ounces? How about 20k ounces?
Gold would have to go way below $1000. A gold silver ratio of 100 would put it at $400. There would be defaults on steroids. The system would break, no it would shatter into countless pieces. You cannot ignore the real physical market - you can send paper to zero but these are legal contracts. They would have to buy people off and then we have the Chinese who would demand delivery or flesh nearest the heart.

This what I love about PMs there is a floor to how low the price of PMs can go because of mining costs. No producer that can stay in business in the long term if the price they sell PMs are less then their manufacturing costs. What other investment can you point out which has by it nature and a price point that it cannot trade under for sustained time frame. Limited downside risks and over longer time frame potential increase purchasing power via PMs.
Unfortunately I don't know what the rock bottom price level is and if PMs will retest this level before heading off to the Promised Land.

Well done for making the effort.  It will be interesting to find out.  I'm sure the VAT will turn out to be pitiful.  Anyone who has been buying more than small amounts has been buying from the continent and will simply continue to do so by vaulting in Europe if required to avoid the unjustified 20%.  Hopefully the info will justify a call to abolish vat on silver and promote the UK as a silver trading hub after Brexit   I can but dream.

This is from an article in the Telegraph in 2010.  "VAT was originally a French idea, started in the 1950s. Britain introduced it as part of its condition of joining the European Economic Community. All countries joining the EEC had to replace their indirect taxes with the VAT. It replaced the Purchase Tax, which was a fairly complex system that had many different rates."

Personally I think it's a dreadful tax.  It manages to slow everything down and adds an enormous drag on every transaction in an economy.  It's nice and easy though for governments which is why it's their weapon of choice.  Without doubt it hits the least well off the hardest and it has some weird side effects as well.
