If i personally were to go down the route of bartering then i would have a bit of silver a bit of gold and a cunning plan.
I have a small garden at the rear of my garden so if everything went digital i would stay in the system so the banks stay away i'd grow veg, some fruit trees and keep chickens. I'd sell a few well chosen pieces that i would have to salvage from a boating accident, buy a hen coop and a run but i'd buy an egg incubator and start a egg farm with a few chickens as a side hustle. Would the government of the day be worried or concerned about a few eggs and some apples n pears?
With a wee bit of planning a few oz of silver and 1 or 2 oz of gold you can be looking at rich pickings.

All prices are set for items or services. By the people buying the items or services!
Would @Chards be in business if people stopped paying chards their asking price? Of course not!  @Chardsis charging what they think their market will accept.
What the sellers want is a huge dose of FOMO so you will just pay what they want.
The price of a house in an area will be set, the price of a tv will be set, the price of a bag of chips will be set and an oz of your favorite precious metal will be set!
Is it rigged? Yes but by you as you are the one paying the set price. I have a long list of gold coins many of which are freely available at a price i just won't go to, Will i ever buy them? Yes, but only when i think the price point is right! I don't buy on availability and i know spot price is a made up number. I believe that spot price is a made up sum of money that a big cabal of financial institutions and the powerful families want to conduct their business at and not at the real value of the precious metal. Diamond price is fixed/inflated by the powerful too. If all the mined diamonds that have been mined hit the market all at once coal would be more expensive!
If anyone thinks that all the gold and precious metals that is produced is sold then i would call them out. Once a certain level of profit is made the rest will be stored to "protect the investment" and sold on to a shell company for storage to be sold on at a later date when more profit can be made.

I always get multiple items when ordering and always do a do a price comparison on the final total. Chards ain't always cheaper but maybe 70% of the time and i think that is the best test for anything. The overall amount of cash leaving your account or pocket.
My last purchase wasn't from chards using this method but if i had used chards over atties i would have saved £51.30 using chards. By going elsewhere i did save another £12.30 and atties weren't the most expensive either. 
The postage has to be paid one way or another so maybe @Chards @LawrenceChard chards have the correct approach but could it be better probably yeah.

Was it bought from the rm i'd return it get a refund then buy cheaper from a reputable source. If bought from a reputable source drop them an e-mail and see what they say

What about a nice one off sov. I've heard that there was a time when the rm did nice gold coloured ones with a dragon on them without ciphers or privys.

Unlucky you must be uncomfortable at the beach. Most guys inside leg is about 5" to 8" !!!!

Would the coin have a subject matter and design that the buyers really likes then i don't see a problem. All but the most ardent stacker will have favorites that they are willing to spend their hard earned on.

I would personally get a good quality capsule for it and leave it in that. I use air-tite caps a very good quality brand.

I remember them back in the day. I thought about them but if i remember the premium they carried was based on their 99999 and not a particularly great design i would  guess that this would still carry a small premium if advertised correctly.

Some mints will produce proper coloured coins, Perth Mint do and they aren't that popular. I have a few Perth Mint Lunar I and II coloured That i got at a good price.
Some folk like them a bit like privy coins but often less demand than the original.

What makes the difference is why you're buying? I now see silver as a collecting hobby date runs and typeset collecting look at some of the Germania mint offerings or power coins.
Gold is more of a wealth protection safe haven for me with a much lower spread than silver (even without VAT) and if i want a quick out with a larger sum of cash a couple of sovereigns is that quick and easy way. I got bigger pieces than sovs but can access a wide total (£) with 0.10, 0.25, 0.5, 1, 2 Toz coins and 5g, 10g, 20g, 50g and 100g bars to choose from.
It's much easier to save with smaller goin coins too.
And i do think dealers will and do in many cases fill the drop in spot with a increase in premium  for a short time. Maybe the size of company can't take the loss of these dips. Maybe it is just price gouging. Either way premiums are a way that companies stay in business, we call it premium, they call it profit. without profit a business wouldn't be there.
There are companies like the above mentioned Atties and Chards that have different ways of working with the inc P&P or not. Usually prices are evenly matched when a couple of coins are purchased. Some will have better availability on new coins and some on older secondhand stock and some will be less bullion with more emphasis on more collecting higher quality items. Atties are more new coins and bars, Chards older coins especially sovs and Silvertrader, power coin on collectibles.
Chards are the only company i can see that openly still do an old fashioned phone me up for stuff with their "Stocklist collection"
I rarely use Atties or Chards for silver purchases because of their pricing and availability issues.
All these markets will have difference business structures with different premiums to support their profits.
