  1. For stacking it has to the cheapest £ to pure T oz ratio taking into account the alloy content.
  2. I agree totally about the whole issue on quality of royal mint proofs and the premiums that go with them, but the few in FDC condition will make them rare and be able to sell for profit. If everyone of their coins was a PF69-70 then profits would be a rare thing indeed and that would be great for collectors !
  3. I will assume that this £550 is inclusive of VAT & P+P to keep a level playing field. But even with a great £50 saving from the royal mint at the equivilent of £2200 T oz and spot at £790 ish today that is still some huge premium from the royal mint with all the damage that their proof come with as standard! Maybe quality for a pure stacker but not the price.
  4. Asking if anyone has seen any proper deals on silver using the secondhand special scheme or is it legitamized scam? WIthout the TAX of the scheme silver and other precious metals should workout as a proper deal but all i've seen is huge premiums.
  5. Over the last few months i've been looking at buying a little more platinum as silver has become expensive with VAT and higher premiums than previously used too. Where oh where can i buy a 1/4 T oz of platinum for less than £600 - £700 range? All my usual sources have no Pt or are even more expensive. I'm probably only wanting a few different Pt coins over the next year but i can't spend this amount on Pt when Gold is around £360 - £400 per 1/4 T oz!!!! Gold price is substantualy higher but cheaper to buy even when VAT is added to Pt. Is the secondhand special scheme a legitamized scam? Gold is around £1312 T oz and Platinum is around £805 T oz
  6. Some folk will be saving for the next good coin they sell.
  7. No. Not free there normally is a rather large premium for these extras!
  8. Just remember that this is a 1 dollar coin note a 50pence piece.
  9. I'll continue with silver collections like kooks and lunar from perth mint, libertads and elephants etc. Any limited edition set when complete i won't be starting another to replace it. I'm dropping the koala's though and i will no doubt sell them on at some point. Sales on the forum have become slightly polarised IMHO the huge variety once available here has shrunk 10 fold, this isn't a criticism or a percieved criticism of our sales forum but just what members are selling at the moment. All things change and the market forces drive sales will always lead the way. BYB has provided excellent products that offer something different to excite the silover bugs. As for sell or keep i will sell on my koala's but everything else is a keep now with a huge emphasis on GOLD with a small amount of platinum thrown in for good measure.
  10. Don't want or particularly it I'd sell. Get something you do like!
  11. Buy, buy, buy just not too much and be eating beans on toast and not too little either.
  12. Maybe just maybe there will be a huge Italian market for this coin? Worth a flip?
  13. Cancelled. shame it's a nice coin

    Pre Owned silver

Often the premium that is charged on special margin scheme outweighs the VAT saving.
  17. I'd be expecting only an fdc coin to make a 70 decision. You've pointed out a few flaws. I'd think about keeping it without grading.
  18. I'm of the thinking the current price of silver will become the new normal and maybe a downturn in stocks but not more than a 30-40% change. Gold is normally seen as a safe haven when other asset markets are turbulent. The recent changes in the UK due to brexit for silver purchases have to some effect killed off the pure silver stacker! It would be a wild risk to go all out on silverin the UK. The SHTF has been a constant topic of conversation since i started my collecting in '89. The various TAX rates in different US states would affect sales there, in India gold is king and i feel imho the UK will go the same way. My stacking has totally moved from silver to gold. Cheapest £ to oz possible. Collecting is a whole different game with different end goals obviously.
  19. I can understand that once you've invested at the start of a coin series it could be a difficult decision to stop. I made that decision at the begining of the queens beasts, At first i did regret the decision but now with the constant criticism i now feel vindicated in doing so. Quality in silver can be so short lived with manufacturing errors, milk spotting and tarnishing. Other mints show how the manufacturing errors can be eliminated. The royal australian mint (RAM), the perth mint, the people's republic of china (Panda's) and mexican mint (Libertads) all have seriously good reputations with quality at the moment.
  20. Out of interest why just sovs? I'm not a fan of the modern rm stuff but their gold standard is a great coin similar size to a sov and the brits are a stackers heaven too!
  21. Quite a few years ago the Perth Mint did have issues with their coins mostly milk spots. It took a while for the problem to be resolved but it was delt with. The rm obviously doesn't care! The Canadian Mint also had a very bad problem with their milk spots too! I'd like to think that they sorted it too but we have to wait and see. Time will tell. Sorting the problems costs money!!!
  22. Why not i haven't bought anything direct from the royal mint in years. Between their pricing, quality control and customer service. Often it is cheaper to buy from a dealer and will check their stock before sending out to a customer. Older rm coins are in much better condition that these new proofs. Remember Proof refers to the type of finish not the quality for finish.
  23. With such amounts of cash it's car boot sales find something cheap then clean up sell for profit on the bay. Petrol lighters for example, can be earners if you find nice ones.
