Britannia 2017 release date?

The design is provoking a lot of comment, mainly negative on here:lol: any Britannia collectors  will buy anyway unless they finished at 2016 so I think  it will sell out regardless.

With the possible exception of the 20 oz silver coin.

The problem with common sense is, its not that common.

I am very sorry but if that design is what passes for fine art, I am the pope. Dreadful drop in standards by the Royal Mint. Truly dreadful. It screams lazy poorly thought  out and executed by the artist. Money can be spent on much much better coins. This is only 20 and 30 years anniversary....meaningless. Pass for me but I hope it does well for members who buy it.

:)

I bought a 1/4 gold proof. I don't really like it, yet, but I have collectivus obsessivus and can't stand a gap.

If there is a gap, it's because I can't find it or I can't afford it!

I don't like the 2005 sov but I had to have one. Or is it 6 now? :D

Good discussion, something the forum can excel at :)

Not buying in protest because they have forgotten cornwall!!! Does the 5oz include it?

They tried, but it was under water at the time and the google maps cars couldn't navigate sorry. ;)

I quickly put together a Britannia design

Obviously it would need polishing, make her look less nude, but I think it's 1000x's better

It would be in the style of the finish like how they have done the King Canute coin

ps. Just realised I put Brittania instead of Britannia, that would only be caught after the first 500 were minted, 500 rare mules :P

LR103, they had the five ounce silver proof version on the site this morning. Not sure where it has gone either

Thank you for the screenshot!  I was considering this coin, but (like many it seems) was not enthralled with the design especially relative to the last few years.  I thought I had some time given the 1,500 mintage, but evidently not.

Might we get the Britannia 2017 proof released tomorrow? or maybe at least be shown the design.

I saw @ChardLizzieLizzie commented that its embargoed till the end of the month and tomorrow it the last day of the month, and the RM usually like to release things Mondays

Hi, so what are your thoughts on the new design? We like the way the dress flows into the lines of Great Britain but she looks a tad awkward and fierce, maybe she's getting ready for the Brexit negotiations?

Hate it :P it's a disaster, probably worse than the 2011

My first reaction was to check it wasn't April 1st because I couldn't believe how bad it was, I don't know who the decision makers are at the Royal Mint, but they don't have any taste

I hope they sell well for you all but as you peruse the previous pages of comments and other threads about the release, you all my have some inventory on hand for a while.  Or if Chard doesn't think the coin will be a strong seller, what would you do to minimize the impact to the business?

The best investment out of all of them on the RM site is the six coin silver proof set. It appears you get a 1/4oz platinum coin free

This must be a first, a mixed metal set at almost less than the metal content? (LOL)

I want one!

You've got it Kman, the 2017 design is too messy. Many years are too messy.

I like your design. Simple works.

Oh I quite like the lion in the 2007, I don't like anything about the 2017

After seeing this design, did it effect how many Chards asked to be allocated?

Well, we've had a busy day with Britannia sales today, lots of collectors wanting to add the design to their collection. We don't usually stock the new gold sets as the premium can be very high, however we're selling the gold set for £300 less than the RM so we'll see how they go. We like to be able to offer new coins to collectors and know that they aren't always popular with everyone.
