Update: And it seems the issue limit might be 2000.

I'm not sure what the price will be, but I almost feel like if there's one Quintuple Sovereign worth getting in this lifetime, it is the 2017 due to the special design. It probably won't show up for another 50 or 100 years.

chances are that it will be the same design as the bullion sov, so nothing to get excited about. They can dress it up as they like but it's just a bullion coin weighing a bit over an ounce. nobody collects these do they?

I assumed it would be the special design; but yes, if it's the bullion design, then nothing special.

Personally i find buying 1/4oz is the optimal size, they are easier to sell because most people do have a few hundred to hand other than a few thousand

As someone who falls into this category, I 100% agree with you on this.

Even if it's a special design, the gold content makes it sooo much money already, not too much room left for a premium on top

As Steve said, " nobody collects these do they"

At least with a normal modern proof sovereign, even if the price is £450, we know they have room to go up to £900-1000

If I had this money to spare, I would have picked it up.

As I said in my original post, I do feel like this would be a coin worth having because of the garter design and the ability to see the detail nicely. It's once in a lifetime.

I'm sure in a year from now, there'll be a few collectors who will want to own one. Even if not at a significantly higher price than the issue price, I could still see people profiting.

I guess that's why they say "you need to spend money to make money".

Oh well! I'll settle for the piedfort :)

There's @Fivepoundfred

I collect the proof commemorative five pounds ( 1990 onwards ) but have gathered one or two nice bu's along the way. I will not be buying one of these, managed to get the proof version for a decent price NGC PF70 " first 150 struck " but the holder had some scratches so did a crossover last week to PCGS and held the grade with first strike. I am really not into this first strike designation, i was just happy with the grade.

I would like to have a close up look at one of these to see what the quality and finish is like ?

This coin has sold out at the Royal Mint in just about 24 hours.

I knew it would be a winner for the reasons I stated. If only I had the cash for one :-/

Not trying to be clever, but just because something sells out in 24 hours doesn't necessarily make it a winner.;)

Well it is from the mint's pov:D

Lol true that.

Here's something interesting... the coin is back and it says 90% reserved. Probably an arrangement with a dealer fell through? Or maybe just a glitch?

Over time I think this is the dark horse of the 3 new coins.

These will probably be the hardest to find as they get sucked into long term holds.

About 101% out of my league but I look forward to seeing the youtube uploads of them so I can kick myself in the head again.

Yes, it's still available. FYI guys, the £5 BU is back on the RM site if anyone wants one. There are at least 3 left! Peace!!!!

Just picked one up. Had ummed and arred up to when they were 100% reserved. Slept on it, passed the day with my kid and then checked what I could let go in my fluid stack to pay for it. It was doable and now it is done. :) That is me up to date with every version of this issue, proofs, piedfort, and bu in all sizes and sets. Ta for the post which ended up pushing me to finish what I started......now we have 6 months to see what else they may come up with to squeeze out of this anniversary, if any.

:)

I'll just check :D

That is fabulous! Do you make videos? It would be amazing to see the entire set in one collection. How awesome! :)

And the 2017 struck on queens 90th birthday only £100 for a bit of paper saying so....... and the 2017 sovereign struck on the longest day making it rare....... royal mint pushing it for all its worth,  but atleast they are coming up with some fantastic ideas and a winning design.  I hope they don't push it all too far, I only have the 2017 bullion but regret not going for the 5 proof set.
