What sovereign would you buy

Recommended Posts

I'm getting hooked on sovereigns but have been stuck on buying close to spot makes sense so bullion so far but getting tempted with the 2017 proof sovereign not sure to go for full or half I've got 10 sovereigns so far and I'm tempted to go for more so bullion makes sense what you think people

Well might as well stick to bullion as currently the proof full sovereign is more than £800 which you could probably grab 3 bullion with change left. As for half sovereign the appreciation is limited due to the much smaller collector base compared to the full sovereign which was also pointed out by the other members in the forum. However it is totally up to you to choose but personally I think the price of the proof sovereign has pretty much hit the ceiling at around £850 - £900.

You can pick up some good Sovereigns at upto 4% above spot including Edward if you pay a bit more you can get Vicky, none of them will be great condition though IMO the odd nick in the coin is ok.

I would say keep on buying anything you like the look of but do your homework first and don't overpay for anything. Try all the different types and see what you like. Do you particularly like a certain head? A certain reverse? Do you feel attracted to rare years and types?
Do you like proofs? or shields?

I know how you'll end up;)

I would advise you not to splash out on a 2017 just yet; prices are high. Be patient and something will crop up in the future. Maybe buy a half to see how you like the design.

Take it easy !

Can't just get it all in one day

people been buying for years ..

you will over spend then have to sell

(been there)

i see you been buying 2002,2005,2012 they the most fun to have and a good investment , shields also

Don't over pay for a sovereign there is always another one to buy ;)

Get the 2017 half and spend the rest on bullion.  Best of both worlds.

The 2017 is my favourite of all the designs. You won't be disappointed.  Once you start on proofs it's a downward spiral though lol.

Yer khow what you mean there nice looking I like the price of the half but it's like a drink at the pub a pint or half lol

Got a full and and half sov 2017 from Atkinsons.
A fair price for shiny new coins and wouldn't pay more than 10% premium for a proof.

Mick, HGM are sorting Sovs into monarchs now :)
