Steve and other Sov experts needed..find of as lifetime? or disappointment?

Ok guys i need some advice, I will be taking these to the jewellers who have an XRF gun tomorrow to find out for sure..But the suspense is killing me. I bought 4 coins that look very much like sovereigns this morning at a car boot sale, I paid £40 for the four...I decided that even if not right they have some interest either for mock jewellery, decoys or to collectors to compare to real coins, and if even one had some gold content I could be quids in - So took a gamble.

Here is some photos..The single 1905 coin I know to be genuine is on the left hand side of the first photo and used to compare diameter and width, It was bought in person from the bullion centre so I have used this for comparison..The coins are the same diameter and thickness and all but one is within the right weight tolerance. one seems a bit light?  How do these look? anything stick out as obviously wrong? It seems to good to be true... The couple i purchased from were middle aged and thought they were not real because they were in a base metal little purse and found at the bottom of a relatives draw. But apparently had not had them checked, when i offered 20 at first they said they would rather get them checked over but accepted £40,

So i did buy these as replicas but the more I look at them the more I wonder could this be the find of a lifetime? or maybe I have set myself up for some major disappointment lol. Curiosity got the better of me and I could not walk away from them.

This is what keeps repeating in my head, but they are the same weight, diameter and thickness of a genuine coin, the colour is the same and there is no pitting under a loupe. I agree is seems to good to be true. But cant help dreaming they might be real lol, I would be wondering for the rest of my life if I didn't take them.

One has a Sydney mint mark, the others are London.

to be fair, I've met a lot of people at car boots that clearly aren't in their right minds..

This is true mate, the sellers seemed perfectly fine and had a nice car, maybe 50s, I said if any were real id go back and give them £100 and il stick to that.

Have bought some mad bargains before like 20 of the new 2016 proof sovereign boxes for a tenner, Some people just cant be bothered to find the value of there stuff and thats why there is still (occasionally) bargains to be had.

I guess you'll find out tomorrow for certain, it would be nice if it was a good result for you

Cheers mate, it would indeed be a blessing as my sovereign stack is at a paltry three sovs currently.

I'll give you £50 for a quick tenner? ;)

They all look fine to me, any variation in weight would be your scales.

I'm certain that they're genuine.

Let us know how you get on!

Thanks Ollie! Ok my anticipation is growing even more now !!

Will let you guys know for sure, if there not right then it just goes to show how good fakes have become.

Im kinda 90% thinking they are real just due to weight and matching dimensions.

Cheers mate:) fingers crossed. If confirmed I honestly believe I wont be able to top this. First bootsale of the season and all! lets be serious though - 99% of the time bootsales are full of tat, for me its a good way to try and lose some weight walking miles round them lol.

Well done Madstacks! I hope they are genuine too.

Let's think of human nature....if the seller  knew they were fake, they'd be a bit non-committal but I reckon they would've asked for a lot more. Even as high as £200 with a 'they might be fake mate, but worth a risk at 200' spiel.

This couple really didn't know what they were or had any idea to their value. Your knowledge: your gain :)

If they are genuine, you've had a very good day!

(ps I'd offer the couple a bit more too. They might not take it but it is the right thing to do)

If they're the right size and weight, I'll stick my neck out and say they're genuine. A quick look at your photos doesn't scream out to me, they look good.

They may turn out to be fakes but will be gold, so you're in the money.

Doesn't sound like you took advantage of some old biddy :D so well done, it sounds like they were foolish but hey, that's life.

I think you'll be fair if you go and give them something extra.

Thats some good thinking there Roy, anyone trying to sell fakes would have asked for alot more, and it really shows the importance of leaving clear instructions of how to dispose of coins for any coins left for relatives.

Mick I had to laugh at that:D

Thanks Steve I'm glad you don't see anything obviously wrong with these that's pretty reassuring, I know nothings set in stone until the XRF scans tomorrow but im pretty damn excited.

I asked the couple if they came regularly to the bootsale and they said no, its not actually one i goto regularly myself - first time today, but I will go back and give them some extra cash if they are real and i can find them, I have a sense of guilt if they are real..But if i didnt take them someone else would have done.

I'm a million miles from an expert, but as everyone else has said they look good and they weigh right, so things look good

I wouldn't feel guilty, it was their idea to sell them and they set the price

Wow, are people really that lazy?  If I found those coins with those dates in Papa's drawer, I'd at least do an Internet search to try and figure out what type of coins I have in my hand (or ask a friend or go to a jeweler, etc.).  Once I found out they may be these things called gold sovereigns, I think I'd invest the time and cabbage to ascertain if they were real or not.  That's a big swing in value for them from 40 quid to.....(who knows).

It's a huge score if they're real and TBH, I have to agree with @Kman, they decided to unload them without verifying what they were selling and they set the price...I wouldn't feel the least bit guilty or that I owed them anything more.  Fingers crossed for you tomorrow.  Good luck.
