Apmex Pricing OTT ??

Pete

Recommended Posts

I regularly monitor Apmex pricing as a benchmark before buying silver coins and was surprised to see the following -

1996 1 oz Silver American Eagle BU

Any Quantity   $99.99    $104.16

"Holy watch your eagles Batman"  . . .  just ordered some from Germany tonight for £21 each.

Any idea why they are asking such a high price ?

To be fair, it is a 21 year old coin.

As a new collector personally, i am struggling to find a price point i am comfortable with when picking up prior year mintages

I agree, this is why I had to stop collecting modern issues as there wasn't a definite finish date and I would be so tempted to collect from the beginning which would be very expensive. The only one I have been tempted with is the Queen's Beasts but the premiums were too high so gave it a miss at the time, probably a mistake:(. I think I have some 1996 eagles though! At least with the older coins they are not making any more:lol:

I have been checking many coins on Apmex and have to say I am seeing some crazy high prices.

I wonder if they price according to stock and a demand index without doing much research as many of their higher priced coins can be bought much cheaper elsewhere.
