There's really no need to get quite so defensive.  You are being extremely naïve, or worse.

You've either bought a fake, or it won't arrive.  Now if it's a fake, you're not covered by PayPal because they no longer cover gold.  Then you have to rely on eBay, which is quite the gamble to take with nearly £1000.

Why waste 14 days without that £1000 to finish an eBay dispute, when you could just not deliberately buy fakes / scam listings?

Who said anything about £1000?

This seller just asked me to write a review on eBay for him. He did say it's a bit cheeky to ask. Maybe he's just starting out in selling precious metals so might have to give him a chance to prove himself. If that gold coin turns up then he should be legit. As long as it's not fake of course:ph34r:

I can only state that in 15 years of using eBay I've never lost money under these circumstances - I guess I'm just more comfortable with eBay and the supposed 'risk' than others.

Each to their own, I just wasn't expecting to be judged quite so harshly in what was meant to be a 'fun' thread.

Not so sure, They aren't air tight and a lot of the older ones are badly toned. They don't tend to sell that well.

I'm always happy to be wrong when all ends well.

Good pick-up @Shinus73 :o:)

Technically, alcohol is a solution..

'It [socialism] poses a growing threat, however unintentional, to the freedom of this country, for there is no freedom where the State totally controls the economy. Personal freedom and economic freedom are indivisible. You can’t have one without the other. You can’t lose one without losing the other.'

The plot thickens - apparently I'm now set to receive a free 2 oz lion rather than a griffin, and my items are being sent from Thailand, as the seller is in holiday there, with the items presumably. I should now receive them by Wednesday, rather than the original estimate of yesterday. ?

Because people take their coins on holiday with them obvs!

I'm trying to think positive thoughts on this, but I'm struggling.

Don't forget even when using paypal and technically safe from losing money, its not worth giving away your address to anyone even remotely dodgy.

I think as of tomorrow buyers are no longer covered with PayPal protection when buying gold.  That is unless the full fee through PayPal was paid using a credit card.

There is third protection.  If the full payment was made through PayPal via Credit Card, he can get a charge back, under the goods being substantially not as advertised.

This seller has now relisted more carded Britannias at the same price as before as well as 'make a bid' offer. Don't know why he withdrew them in the first place?!!

Perhaps as he's busy having fun on his hollybobs to deal with eBay.

Lots of people like to buy their PM via eBay.  There are as many reputable dealers there as there are scammers; just be careful.

A good purchase - hoping you don't have to pay £8 fee plus 20% VAT when it arrives in the UK.
Let us know please.

My package from Israel arrived today, no £8 fee and no import fees, just a signiature and it was mine, so £26.54 all in
