got mi self a little parcel today , the 1876 shilling , envelope weighs nothing  , bought it as most coins were going for more than I paid  on buy it now and auction,

heres the thing , on a silver one ounce coin , you know what your getting,  its one ounce and pretty weighty

the e bay photos on these shillings are very very misleading, the close up makes the coin look about the size of the old 5p with quite a thick edge

WRONG    about the size of the new 5p  wafer thin ,  ill possibly re sell it , that dosent bother me , its the way that coins look oversized on the e bay pages,

they should start saying coin measurements

ah well back to the 1 oz search

There are plenty of places online that give specific dimensions of pre shillings.

I can make an ant look pretty huge by taking a close-up photo.

DYODD, you can't expect sellers to give exact dimensions of every coin when the information is available with a 5 second google search.

Stacker since 2013

1oz is actually quite a lot of silver if you look at the content and weight of pre-20 British sterling in comparison. But yeah, the internet is an infinitely valuable resource if properly utilised.

Once bitten, twice shy. It's a learning curve, now you know to avoid surprises it's a question of legwork :)

Don't worry dude, I have done exactly the same. The very first gold coin I purchased, when it arrived, was so small I almost fell off my chair! It looked huge in the photo's lol (Ooohh missus!) lol

Well, it is only ½ a gram! Any way I kept it. turns out to be one of my better buys, I have double my money on it already, even with cheap gold prices! lol

So don't despair mate, this is what you call gaining experience! It is good for you! ;)

I did the same, I bought a RAM kangaroo at sunset 2010 silver proof which I assumed was a 1ozer,turned up and it was 1/5 of an ounce  never mind its a nice coin but doesn't really fit in with my collection.

The problem with common sense is, its not that common.

Cracking looking coin, love the case it's in

Cheers I've got the 2011 as well as i bought that very well as they say,but i'm not collecting them as they look best in their original packaging, which as you've noticed is superb for an itty bitty coin

how many 1 ouncers can you carry in your pocket without a big sign over you

saying 'rob me'  :)

Why on earth would you walk about with 1 ozers in your pocket.

The problem with common sense is, its not that common.
