Hi all,

Just starting my first topic to say "hi". :)

Just around Christmas I got the bug for buying silver. Not as an 'investment' as such but just as a little hobby and maybe something nice to pass on to my children I guess.

I'm probably making lots of beginners mistakes in terms of what i'm buying and from where so looking forward to learning, and also just having some people to talk to this stuff about.

For now i decided to start by buying little and relatively often, and buying items i like the look of, rather than just buying in bulk as close to spot as possible.

So far that amounts to a few specific 1oz coin series (RM Lunar, RCM Predator) and some nice PAMP lunar 1oz bars. Look forward to one day building up a nice 'stack' like some I've already seen from lurking on here.

Cheers.

Welcome! if buying for investment buying "little and often" is a sure fire way to build a healthy size collection but at the expense of your cost average price per ounce as the postage costs will really add up over time, but if your just collecting as a hobby who cares - I don't think you can make many beginner mistakes really as we all need to learn what we like, just be careful of sites like ebay and avoid anything that says clad/100 mills,German silver,Nevada silver, plate, silver filled, silver bonded ect.

Afternoon.

There is a lot of cheap silver for sale on this forum. To the best of my knowledge, there has never been a sour deal here.

My advice? Become a Premium Member, you'll soon recoup the fees. (No commission received :P).

Technically, alcohol is a solution..

Personal freedom and economic freedom are indivisible. You can’t have one without the other. You can’t lose one without losing the other.'

Wow I'm impressed by how active the forum is and the warm welcome, thanks!

Thanks for the advice too - very much appreciated and look forward to soaking up as much as i can.

I appreciate the economies of buying in bulk and only paying postage once (and similarly appreciate that gold may be a preferred option for true investment / appreciation value and ease of trading) but at the moment i'm just trickling some disposable income at this new hobby each month so enjoying picking up specific coins that appeal to me and collecting a few coin series. Next on the list is the Queens Beast Griffin I think.
