1872 Sovereign

Hi

Just acquired this 1872 sovereign from a family member. To be honest I don't really know much about Sovereigns. Just wondering if one of this age/type would attract a premium over more modern years in terms of its value.

Also one other query is when you flip the coin the obverse and reverse are upside down to one another is this correct? I thought the obverse and reverse were the same orientation if that kind of makes sense.

Any advice gratefully received like I said don't know that much about them.

Nice enough coin, approaching EF grade but not quite. Should be worth a little more than modern bullion sovereigns.

All sovereigns were struck as you describe, in coin alignment, until 1887 when they changed to medal alignment or the "same way up" and have stayed that way ever since.
