Your thoughts on the Shuttles Coin

Hello eveyone,

I've been in the silver game for a month and after Pandas, Phoenix & Dragon and Maple Leafs, I was looking for something more special.
I've noticed the new Space Shuttle $5 Cook Islands with flown materials of the 6 US shuttles and found it much more appealing than the 2012 one. With this price tag (around $200-250) and a limited mintage of 500, do you think it is a good buy?

Thanks for you help !

Hi Strokes, only buy that coin if you like it and intend to keep it.

IMHO if you want to sell the coin in the future you'd only get $50-$100  if you were lucky as it won't have much of a collector following.

As ever, if it appeals to you as a collector buy it as a piece of art, the price is not going to bankrupt you.

The problem with common sense is, its not that common.

I always look at it from 3 angles. Aesthetics - is this coin a wonderful piece of art - some may say so but in my opinion it is not that amazing and doesn't appeal to me. 2nd Mintage - it does have a low mintage which is great but when you combine that with the 3rd which is potential demand and markets of potential interest I think it would be quite low down the list for me. What @motorbikez says is completely right, if you love this coin and/or it means something special to you then by all means you should take a punt on it. Just dont count on it being an amazing investment coin. Maybe in 20 years we will be all proved wrong but chances are it will be an average return at best.

All that is my own opinion of course so I could be completely wrong! Good luck and enjoy!

Waste of money. Avoid.

If you really really wanted it then wait a while b/c from past experience the price will fall.

Thanks for your advice ! I think Maple Leafs and Perth coins are much more suited for my needs....

Maples are the number one for milk spot - go with the Aussie coins other than Bullion Kangaroos.
