Picking up in Washington D.C.

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm off to Washington D.C. to go see my best mate Donald (:D) at the end of Feb and wondered if anyone has any recommendations for where to go to pickup some PM's?

I haven't really found anywhere worth trying yet, but while I'm there its always worth checking for any potential deals.

Check out the best prices from Gainesville, Apmex etc and see if your mate would order for you and take delivery at his address.
Some bullion outlets offer free UPS shipping within the USA.
Your mate should be able to pay using a USA registered credit card so you can refund him when you meet up.

Sorry lol I was joking about my mate Donald. I.e. Presedent Donald Trump. But thanks for the advice anyway.

You may find this funny but I am somewhat "pissed" that having made an effort to provide some genuine advice you posted this thread intended as a joke !
These kinds of entries can evolve and screw up a serious forum.
If you want to add humour then don't write in the main metals sections, use the other sections provided.
I hope our moderators support this because I don't want this forum to loose its focus.

Probably not the best place to put in a joke when asking for genuine advice.  @Pete I believe this is a genuine thread on advice for picking up PMs in D.C but the OP won't actually be visiting a friend.

No I am genuinely going to Washington DC and I am really looking to pickup some PMs I just added a joke for who I was seeing! Apologies I thought it was obvious. Believe me based on this misunderstanding I will not be doing it again!

I got the joke.  If you are not staying with a friend but rather in a hotel, you can always phone ahead in advance and ask if they have a mailroom that they will let you have mail sent to.  I have done this a few times in the past for things like car parts and had them fedexed to the hotel before I got there.  Obviously, you have to ask the hotel in advance and make sure they know you are doing that.  If you contact them before ordering and also again on the expected date of delivery it should work out ok.  I was always with a business that the hotel dealt with regularly so that probably made it easier for them but you can always try asking.  Americans are usually very helpful in my experience.

New profile pic to support the current thing, because it's current year.

Thanks for confirming you are genuinely heading to DC - my apologies for not seeing the partial joke at the time.
Hope you have a successful trip.

Have a look at the US page for Fedex and their service of 'Hold at Location.' (http://www.fedex.com/us/services/hold_at_location_overview.html)

AMPEX ( and probably others) use Fedex as their prefered courier, thus you can order and have this shipped to a local Fedex shop in DC. All you need is your passport and they will release the package to you. Just be aware of the time they will hold the package, but with planning this should not be a problem

Safe travels, and give my regards to Don :)

Apmex and others usually use the us postal service for deliveries - based on my experience purchasing from them.  One problem you may encounter is that if you order - there may be a delay in processing and shipping of the item for a few days. If you order to late - the package may arrive after you have left the hotel.
