Pouring

Hi. I am looking into getting into pouring my own silver. Can anyone advise me where I can acquire the relevant equipment in the UK? I am not looking for to much, perhaps a furnace with a small capacity, (Approx 5OZ), moulds etc.I have seen some small electric furnaces from China, but am a little dubious about buying from abroad. Also, can anyone advise where I can acquire "Silver shot" in the UK?

Thanks in advance.

Tony.

Hello @TRICKYXXX and welcome to the forum,  for a furnace it really depends on your budget to determine the size and quality, as for silver shot in the uk you will struggle to get it from anywhere in the UK without paying through the nose for VAT.

Please feel free to PM me with any questions.

Hi @TRICKYXXX welcome to the forum and to the world of pouring!

I have used a company called http://www.technicalsupermarket.com/ and I bought a 7oz kiln which is great for me. Getting great results from it.

Moulds - ebay is your best bet, some decent priced regular shaped ones but if you want complex ones its got to come from the USA and you have to pay postage and customs charges usually.

Silver shot is going to be tough - I have recently started using 1oz coins, heating them up and cutting them up with tin snips to get them to fit in the kiln. Its a bit of a faff but I have got it down to about 1minute per coin. Its certainly much more cost effective than getting shot. I buy my coins in bulk from europe.

Come check out some of my pouring videos and you can see some of my results. Any questions just get in touch!

Hi GB and BYB. Many thanks for your kind replies. The Two links provided by BYB have been especially useful, and I thank you for that. As a subscriber to your channel BYB, I have seen the results that can be achieved from the kiln that you use (would be great for my purposes), and at a super realistic price to. As to the shot, I am considering the pros and cons of purchasing in bulk from YPS in the USA..? I already have about 50 OZ of flawed non fiat generic .999 bars to start me off, but, my supply is going to be limited in the near future.

I watched a video on Youtube a couple of days ago from Mr Zeke, who, provided me with a great link to a mould manufacturer in the states.

I have also thought about using Silica Crucibles and Mapp Gas....Your thoughts please..?

I will look into the European costings, as I cannot see me ever cutting up my BU Kooks, Britannia's, Isle Of Man Angel's, Queens beasts, or any other of my treasured stack.

I will end with another thank you to T from BYB, for posting mentions to the forum in his videos. (I look forward to your next live event)

Regards to all the community.

Have a good, safe and happy Christmas.

Tony....

Hello @TRICKYXXX

For silver shot perhaps take a look at this.. https://www.europeanmint.com/1oz-999-fine-silver-grain/

Also https://m.cousinsuk.com/  is a really good quality supplier of crucibles in all shapes and sizes, and a whole wealth of other equipment you may need/want.

Please feel free to post your creations in the "Today i made" post.

Thanks Ben

Even factoring in the 20 Euro delivery charge, this is some of the cheapest grain I am yet to come across. I will come back to the other equipment site later. As you can see, I am not even 24 hours into the site, but am really enjoying it already. As for "Today I made",I believe I will be at least a month away, before my first creation. I will be posting my first attempt to You tube, but please excuse any expletives in advance.. I am currently compiling a list of all links for future reference, and the names of who supplied them..

Many thanks again..

I have just done a basket test on this and if you order 100 oz of shot it works out at £14.40 per oz (including shipping costs and current exchange rate of euro-pound of 1.17).

Ordering 50 meant the price was £14.70 per oz (inc. Postage).

Pretty good price all things considered. I did just pull the trigger on an order of coins from goldsilver.be which after various cashback's ended up being £14.30 per coin. I ordered on Tuesday when spot was a little lower and the Euro-Pound rate was 1.19!
