I think the end date has been adjusted to tomorrow night.

would have been nice if we had been informed.

Is there a reserve or is the £100 start bid the reserve?

hi sovereignsteve :) sorry , just managed to get access to wifi .. yes the end date has been adjusted to tomorrow night as I figured out I initially set a time which would not permit regular visitor of the forum to get a chance bidding.

Yes there is a reserve for this coin, you start the bid at £100 with £10 increments. .it has quite low mintage and is sold out at the mint&most EU dealers. I did my best keep the reserve low .

Here is a link I found for it but they have just 1 Left in Stock :

http://www.powercoin.it/en/oceania-south-pacific/1689-egyptian-symbols-ankh-gilded-colored-silver-coin-3-oz-20-palau-2014.html    + on top of that I also paid  (DHL delivery&currency exchange fees to UK) so for the reserve it has...is really a bargain :D

So is the reserve £100 or it is yet to be reached?

as mentioned in the description, the auction starts at £100 and keeps going until the reserve is meet. ; ps;  as this coin costed me nearly £270 delivered to the uk wouldn't be that fun for me to let it go for £100 :)

I have never seen the point in setting a reserve and keeping it secret, there is no advantage to the seller and it risks wasting buyer's time.

keep bidding mate :D you will be getting there if u really interested in the coin...+ I think this is all the fun abut the auctions. involves some sort of interaction and enthusiasm between people, it doesn't have a standard set price which is just cool ;

* normally when I enter an auction (with reserve ) I do bit of market research about the product before and I know let's say a bar on the market costs £200 and the seller says the starting bid is £50...If I wanna get it done fast and be sure I win I always start with £150-170+ but if I just wanna play around I ill put £50 and keep going although I know I will never get it for that price lol :) so the higher ur starting  bid the closer you get winning the auction...

That may have been the intention but I didn't get that impression, nor did @HelpingHands

I appreciate your position and no, I didn't expect to win it for £100 but mine was the only bid up until quite close to the original closing time/date and I didn't see it had been changed.

What you paid for it has no bearing on what I would consider a fair price or what I would be prepared to pay. The recent market for these coins is pretty slim.

It would have been much easier for you to have started the auction at your reserve or stated what it was. It I was prepared to pay over that, I could then have bid accordingly. I see no fun in bidding in £10 increments waiting for you to say the reserve has been met. Also I would have no idea whether you had even seen the latest bid so wouldn't know whether I had to increase by £10.

There is no guarantee we would even get there by the end.

Regards,

You said you sadly had to sell this, suggesting you had no other choice and selling by auction because you need the money sooner rather than waiting longer for a better price. Setting a hidden reserve is pointless. You might as well just put it as buy it now at the price you want for it.

Also, It dosent matter what you paid for it, I have an oz of gold bought for £1000 but if i had to sell it today I would get £900...

So it is what it is. If my bid wins, im happy to pay for it - Just let me know if you want it to be sold.

I think every auction on the forum, except HelpingHands which were cleverly orchestrated, has been a failure?

Perhaps it's time to end them?

I think there is a time and a place for auctions. If you need a guaranteed sale and a quick one where the best possible price is not an issue then its all good. Otherwise get it as a fixed price!

Agree. maybe next time I will start my bid from the reserve up; it's only i've seen it on many groups ppl doing as I just started...but perhaps ur suggestion make more sense :)

For me it matters a lot what I paid for lol   Indeed I need cash and I accepted myself to lose 'some money' on it compared to what I paid...but that has to be up to a decent amount; can't just sell it for super cheap just because I need some extra cash<_<- such pressure in this scenario is the worst thing can happen.

anyways too much talk for this auction :) so.....

If not sold i will just list it as buy it now :)  so if anyone is interested can have it.. I did some calculator experiment so the reserve price will be around $100 cheaper than what was paid for;  otherwise it can be purchased any time from the dealer for the original price, as they still have one left in stock ( link with the details in the description) :)

I remember @Madstacks doing some traditional auctions but with clearly defined modus, they seemed to work. i think the ones that @HelpingHands did were "reverse format.

Your way of running an auction will only work with items that are going to be popular at the price you want, with lots of bidders to bid up to and past your reserve. On that score, this was always a non-starter. This type of coin is a prime example of one that was overpriced on issue that will invariably lose money over the long run. Sorry.
