Bullion

It's all bullion really, isn't it?

I've been sorting through my toy box and separating things I like, things I think command a premium and things I consider pure bullion. HGM/ATKS fodder.

Pile 1: Sovs, any weight and denomination. Proofs, fakes, ex jewellery, boxed, loose, bent, dirty and holed. I like sovs :)

My Mexican flirtation. All the Pesos. Some Venezuelan.

Pile 2: Potential Semi-Numi, Lunars, Pandas

Pile 3: Simple bullion, Krugs, all weights. Phils, Maples, Eagles.

Where shall I put these?

Aus. Gold Nuggets (2)

IOM Angels

Brits, all weights.

A nice $20 St. Gaudens. Not a rare year. (2)

Ducats.

(this isn't a 'sales' thread)

I'd put Ducats in Pile 3 - simple bullion.  They're mostly restrikes with no discernible difference from one year to the next.  Nice coins, but all the same.

St Gaudens... Never going to be just bullion, even if it's a boring year.  Often called the 'Most Beautiful Coin Ever Struck', they will always hold a small premium.  Maybe Pile 2 - semi numi?

I guess Nuggets are fairly generic, if a little underrated.

Cheers.

The St. Gaudens is an strange 'un. I bought it at spot but it doesn't thrill me. Probably 'cos it's slabbed.

Agree Ducats, Nuggets meh. Angels?

Roy - well, while a fan of the St Gaudens - I do tend to agree with you in that I wouldn't say it's the most beautiful ever gold coin.

But I will raise the defence of the Aussie nuggets - as I would argue that the older ones of actual Aussie gold nuggets are special - -and deserve to be in Pile 2.  The gold kangaroos can languish in Pile 3, except a few nice designs. Are you talking about the nuggets or the marsupials ? ?

Thanks Lindeman.

You inspired me to research.....a lot of my (nugget) coins are proof it seems :)

Happy to hear that Roy! Glad to have saved some fine proofs from the ignominy of Pile 3 ..

if you feel the need to dispense with any of those real nuggets I will gladly oblige ? as I need some 1988 and 1989.
