Apparently there was an email that I missed from NGC to tell me that some of the coins had been given GBlabels when I did not ask for them.

They wanted to know whether I wished them changed back to Brown and so held and did not finalize. I have now confirmed that the GB labels are fine and they should finalize and send back

Cool that's OK if they were mine don't mind if gb label thank.s for info

Plain edge sovereigns seem to be grading really well, which almost kind of takes the point out of grading in a way doesn't it :P

See one got a 69 think all but that got a 70 my first time at grading so well happy gunna keep mine so worth it for me think it's a lovely coin I've got more expensive coins but it's my favourite sovereign so far followed by the India 2017 that I got last week

Just did a quick research on the population of the Piedfort Sovereign, out of the 431 sent for grading so far 251 got PF70 and 18 got PF69 from NGC while all 5 submitted to PCGS got PR70DCAM which indicates that those coins that RM got it right (ie. without scuff marks or dreaded Piedfort Tail problem) seems to grade pretty well generally.

@SilverTanner I guess that £130 gamble on the 1807-A 1/4 Franc with the "Adjustment Mark" as DNW put it paid off!  I'm glad NGC only saw it as a lower grade and not a Details grade.  Great result on yours as well!  NGC shows only 5 in AU58 and only 3 examples in higher grade (and our two coins make up just under half of the AU58 population) :)

Not too shabby on my Godless Florin either although that photo doesn't do the coin justice.  Here's the pic from the DNW auction...

Thanks for the updates @Numistacker!  Great way to start the weekend.

Fantastic results for the 1862 and the 1820 sixpences - big increase in value and the 1820 inverted 1 is a first for NGC! No plan to sell these and my daughter has already decided my coin collection is hers when I drop dead:lol:

AU58 for the 1807A was expected and completes my slabbed typeset of Napoleon 1/4francs - one is in a PCGS slab so you may get this to cross to NGC in the next lot as all the others are NGC. Great result for Jester on his coin!

The tiny scratch I was worried about on the 1925 florin unfortunately meant a details grade but it was a worth a try as I have seen much worse scratches be ignored. The 1700 result is probably 'NGC speak' for the grade of the coin was too low  - I have no concerns at all about the autheticity of this coin.

Bit surprised at no 'error mule' coin for the Ceylon 10c (proof obverse and normal reverse) as it is really obvious but completely unrecorded so there was no where for them to look it up!

is there any point in labelling these "first releases" as in theory, they were all minted on the same day?

* stuff knows how this appeared again*

First releases - now there's something to debate!
I see many list "First Strike" or whatever and charge a big premium for it.
In my view, just because you submit a coin in the first 30 days after minting it doesn't warrant this premium.
A PF UC 70 is just that - about as perfect as you can get.
So you buy a 20 year old Proof and send it off to NGC or PCGS and it comes back PF (PR) Ultra Cameo 70. So why should a coin submitted in the first 30 days command a Premium?
In my view - it shouldn't! If you've kept your beloved coin, safe, secure and untouched for 50 years then decide to have it Slabbed - the number is the number - period!
Well that's my opinion.
What's yours?

251 from 3750 isn't a good indicator, that's only 269 coins which still leaves 3481. 50% would give a better idea and I believe stackeruk sent 6 back out of 6 bought for faults, so what sort of indication does that give, there was also strike on the day sent back for problems.

I think the initial releases coins have done well other than the 2nd wave which by this release the dies have obviously had problems

@Numistacker - thanks! Happy to see the Perth Mint 2016 commem Sov getting a PF70. Will go nicely with my 2005 Sydney one.

When you get a chance - could you clarify who sent in the QB 1/4s and the SOTDs that are in this batch? Were there some  SOTDs in the box that was sent back...? Also trying to locate my 2016 Libertad 1/4...

cheers

Lindeman.

Yeah the Perth Mint Sovereign for 2016, I bought it at auction a couple months ago & really liked it so I would like to get the other years if they are up at a reasonable price.

@SilverTanner, kinda bored this morning and not a lot of new content on the Forum so I was looking over images of the coins Numi posted yesterday.  Are those haymarks on the 1820 George III 6P?  I see examples of haymarkings more frequently on Queen Anne coinage.  Just curious if you'd noticed it and have an opinion one way or the other.
