They do seem a bit expensive to me.  There could be a short term flip but this might be a case of buy one if you want one to keep for your collection.

For example you can get a 1989 half sov for about the same price as this 2017 half sov.

Maybe the full sov will see a 50% increase but I wouldn't bank on it.

I do like them though, don't get me wrong.

I bought the new 2017 Gold Proof Sovereign today from the ROYAL mint, I also could have purchased from the London mint but would have only saved £2 odd, so decided on the RM. It is going back to the 1817 sovereign. If you would like to see the coin you can at the RM site. JUST for anyone interest you can purchase a Half Sovereign or quarter Sovereign which is a very low mintage, I would hurry if you want the quarter. I wish I could put up the photo as I find it good as nice design.

I bought one of these(half) came up as free shipping all the through but when I paid a £12.50 shipping charge was added  - adding insult to injury Silvegun mentioned Chards had these at a cheaper price - :( - my order is showing up as 'subject to availability' is this a standard term used as they have not charged me as yet.

Why would the Mint allow another dealer to sell at a cheaper price on a pre release

Don't forget gold spot was £300 cheaper last year. That pretty much accounts for all the increased price of a sovereign.

How soon people forget:)

It should be free shipping? i think anything over £45 is normally sent free send them a email they might be able to take it off . they dont normally take the money from your account untill a day or two before your order is dispatched.

Chards will get them at dealer wholesale cost and they have always passed on much of this for proof sovereigns. Just shows you how much the mint must make selling at their prices.

There was a time a couple of years ago when Chards were struggling to get their usual supply at wholesale prices so I'm surprised they are getting it again this year.

I will say that I haven't seen so much buzz around a coin for a good while on here, and that's usually a very positive indicator

What's the chatter been like on other forums? for those who visit them

I think the design is fantastic.

It carries a high premium but I think anyone who has an interest/fondness/passion for the Sovereign will buy one for their collection.

(except maybe Paul :D)

I wondered about the subject to availability bit as well.  I hope they haven't sold them all to Chards

Shame on you! :D

I wonder if this might be a good occasion for a poll?

Do you like the design? YES/NO

Will you 'invest' in one or all?

Maybe...?

I like the design but still undecided as to buy or not and which one(s).

Some Full Sovs.  Premium 3 Coin, 3 coin and full sov?  I think I'll take my time and maybe sleep on it.  If it sells out in the meantime then the decision would have been made for me.

I would have been a much easier decision at the older price/spot.
