It wasn't technically today that I made these bars - but I couldn't share them until Numistacker took delivery of them!

Thanks Stan - it took about 1 hour to do all told. Tried very hard to get them as perfect as possible and of course not to spell anyone's name wrong!

I actually had another bar planned for this project - but thanks to a late donation I had the perfect excuse to remelt it and make something better. So glad I did!

I also had 2 other bars come out with not very pretty ripples on them so they have to go back into the melting pot.

I really want to get the perfect ripples on every piece I make - it is one of the most frustrating hobbies because replicating things is almost impossible.

So many things affect it - Temperature of the silver, temperature of the mould, temperature of the room - the type of silver you use, the age of the crucible, speed of the pour...the list goes on and on.

I will spend lifetime trying though!

How are the lines made are you gradually removing the heat in tiny amounts?

The lines are created as the silver cools. It comes out of the Red Hot Crucible at 1075 degrees centigrade, the blow torch makes a hotspot on the molten silver which means it cools a lot slower and then by tapping the mould and moving the liquid silver around you can create these ripples and patterns. It's like waves on water that solidify it's like waves on water that solidify!

Well I didn't pour them all today but I did stamp them all!

6 stamps per serial number and 50 bars with 6 stamps on the front = 1500 stamps in one day!!!

Such stunning work by all the silver pourers on here. Just wish I had deep pockets to buy big time from all of you. May have to rethink my strategy, well modify it somewhat. Just love so many of the pieces shown on this thread.

Keep up the good work! It's fabulous.

I made a mess. 999 silver, but borax from my crucible melted and I ended up with a lump on top. It's going to be a remelt. It's stuck on tight.

Rubber m8? I've got a dremel. Have you any links to the part needed?

Thanks.

On my phone at day job so can't link. The attachments are green just search dremmel rubber on eBay. When the borax is gone get a polishing kit for your dremmel also. Have a play round and mirror finish in no time. ?

Technically, not the most difficult project ever. Full instructions are available if anyone else wants to make one.

Is that one of the Perth Mint Dragon bar/coins?

Also, I'm rapidly learning that "just following instructions" is rarely as straightforward as it seems ;)
