You should do a blood sweat and tears series lol great bar

This is basically that series. I skinned two fingers on the sand paper as well as creating that huge blister!

@BackyardBullion how much silver do you reckon you lose creating a finish like that?  Can you collect and re-use the silver dust?

It weighed 2.68 oz when I got started so it was a total loss of 6.5 grams (there were some big curves on this bad boy!).

I have the dust but the problem is it is all mixed in with the sand from the sandpaper.

If I was a commercial jeweller then I would probably keep it all and then have it refined back to use again but I just dont think that would be worth the hassle and the cost.

So a normal mirrored piece (like this heart)

Would only lose maybe between 1 and 1.5 grams of silver to get it polished because it is pretty even surface already.

So over the whole of the 20 or so mirrored pieces I have made there has probably been about 1 oz of silver lost in a year - such is life!

So it's not precious metal...

But I did do some pouring today...

Making a bunch as part of a Christmas care package for friends and family full of homemade things only!

How can you resist trying to cast a Christmas tree in silver?

God that would be awesome to do! Sadly the mould would need to be a split graphite mould (or sand casted but I am useless at that!) And I recon this mould would cost £150 - £200 alone!

Also a solid silver tree this size would be about 20+ Oz!

Maybe a smaller version next Christmas!

I was thinking of lost wax casting, no idea how that would work in practice though.
