You can see how bad the card envelope was bent.

The coin was in a flip which was in some tissue paper. They were both bent as well. But that doesn't explain, or excuse the coin.

In my opinion, it might be "just bullion" but it's still nearly a £300 item I bought. If I paid that for a new TV I wouldn't expect it to be dirty on arrival.

You wouldn't mind if you had paid scrap value! That's bad:o

Yeah I aint impressed with that packaging etc, would of wrapped it half the size and in a small royal mail proof box, they could of possibly cleaned it carefuly first, its not like its a super rare old ultra fine coin which it would effect the value of, just gives you the feeling of 'we dont give a ? '

I couldn't agree more. The woman I spoke to said the don't touch the coins once they arrive from the mint. So I asked how do they get them in to the Atkinson's flip. She said with gloves.

Very bad customer service. For them it's a small sale. But to most people it isn't.

@BoredGit It is a shame for sure - was it bought as brand new or from their second hand & pre-owned page?

Regardless - a blip for them.

There is possibly another good gold deal on Atkinsons Pre-owned page. A 2010 gold 1 oz Britannia. I bought one recently from their pre-owned page and it was in pristine condition.

https://atkinsonsbullion.com/pre-owned/gold/pre-owned-gold-coins/pre-owned-2010-uk-britannia-1oz-gold-coin-(2)

This one is a little more % wise than I paid but it is still only 4.73% over spot.

It was new. They also said it passed their quality control.

It looks like its been dropped on a dirty floor.

Esthetics aren't a big problem for me, if buying second hand. But when buying new, I expect it to look like new.

There is no way on earth that is new, unless its been on some dusty windowsill with all the dead flies and someones bogey collection for the past year.

@BackyardBullion

This is the email response I got from them after I complained and sent photos. Would you except this? I think it's appalling! It goes to show how much they care about the smaller buyers.

"The condition shown in the pictures you have sent is common for Bullion coins and would not affect its resale value in the future. Marks and dirt can often occur on any part of the coin from the manufacturing process and from being stored.

We wipe coins before they are repackaged in our coin slips, however due to the soft nature of fine gold coins we never polish the coins in harsh way by hand or machine. The areas on your coin after viewing your pictures may be removed with a little water and gentle rubbing with a soft cloth."

I am sorry for putting this thread in the wrong stream. I hope no-one minds to much. I'll be more careful in future.

I don't want to be devils advocate or anything - so please don't bite my head off about the following

I would not describe this reply as appalling. Instead I would describe it as your typical, "it's bullion, get over it" defence. They are not rude or dismissive in the email like other dealers have been and they offer an overview of their practices and a possible solution to the problem.

That said, I do not agree with that approach as a defence and as a business complaint resolution decision I don't agree. At the end of the day though, it is their business decision but I think we will all agree that the most sensible decision that they could have taken would be to replace the coin for you and do the cleaning themselves.

Just my 2 cents and opinion. I am not brown nosing here, just stating my opinion.

I just think its really bad they don't seem to care that someone has spent £273 on some gold and its turned up dirty when it should be new. Saying its bullion not a proof doesn't mean it shouldn't be looked after. I payed extra for a new coin instead of a used one that might be dirty or scratched.

I think that enough on them. I'll leave it from here. I just wish they had an open review page.

From the likes it seems they have sold a couple but still have one in stock (but £360 now - so maybe that one comes with a capsule).

Apmex is having a sale on sovereigns, though I have no idea how this works for those of us outside the USA.  They're currently listed at spot price ($306.26, as of right now, with $1,250.10 spot price).

Can you tell me was the coin in some bubble rap or card etc or was it loose?  I have to admit i am surprised with Atkinson's email.  Apart from once many years ago they have always sent my parcels out securely.

It was in an Atkinson's flip, which was in some tissue paper, then loose in the from there. The card envelope was 20cm x 22cm. No other protection.

Not sure if this qualifies here but have a look at the graded sovs an Aussie mate is selling - if nothing else for just reference of the prices (all in AUD). He's a reputable seller.

Chards are doing a bulk deal on some gold bullion 1oz coins, while stock lasts.

It has potential for a group order if @BackyardBullion or someone equally well organised and trusted was interested in upping the stakes slightly.

 https://mailchi.mp/chards/gold-bullion-clearance?e=7b3af4d54f

Essentially if 10 people bought in, it would be 1.5% premium on a gold Kangaroo, Perth Ox or coloured Rooster.

They aren't my cuppa tea, personally, but others will like them and it's still cheap gold at the end of the day.

Would we save that much when you factor in that I have to post it out to people (likely at special delivery?)

Happy to organise if that is what people want!

Having looked at the numbers you save the most when you are buying 1 oz only.

If you wanted 2 coins they would cost you £976 (after postage) directly.

Via me then it would be £963 per coin + £10 SD postage so £3 per oz cheaper.
