Anyone collecting Platinum, Paladium, Rhodium?

The Peth Mint Platinum Platypus coin looks nice.

There is also a Platinum maple leaf coin.

Advantages of platinum is that is does not tarnish like silver. However it is not as reflective.

How easy is it to sell these sorts of metals, any dealers offering to buy back at 97-100% of spot?

I'm not collecting, but I wouldn't mind an ounce of palladium and platinum, its the same old story though I'm not paying VAT for the privilege, I'd buy something 2nd hand if it came up at the right time.

The problem with common sense is, its not that common.

Pretty much the same

Id really like a platinum coin but with VAT it's not a cheap prospective and not sure how easy one would be to sell if needed?

Hatton Garden Metals, advertise a buying price for platinum on their home page.

Currently offering

Todays Platinum Price £23.48 per gram (950) £24.83 per gram (999)

Hmm so I can see a platinum 1 oz Australian Platypus for £901 without VAT, so that would be £1080 ish with VAT?

So £24.83 x 31g = £769

Not working out too well :/

But that is for scrap platinum, maybe coins it a bit more, but probably still a big loss.

Yea, unfortunately it makes more sense to buy a 1oz gold coin than a platinum one. Unless the price of platinum is estimated to increase greater than that of gold in which case making up for the high premiums.

Looking at a silver chart for example you can see that there is far more room for growth, just based on historical highs, than gold has. So that compensates the high premiums on silver vs gold. But platinum I don't know, I haven't actually looked at a chart anytime recently.

Platinum is the only one of the lot I would consider buying but even then given the fact gold is currently VAT free and has - probably - orders of magnitude more popularity than platinum then I can't see why i'd buy it in any sort of bulk. 1 platinum maple just to say i've got some I could see, nothing more.

As for the others, you need to find people who're interested in the metal which is a problem compared to silver and gold. It'd just be a pain in the ass to sell IMO.

Platinum would be a one off purchase for me too.

I really like silver too much and i now have a small gold stack too.
