Notes on Birmingham jewellery quarter: best place to sell gold

Been up in Birmingham for a few days, so have had time to look at some of the amazing jewellery and gold bullion shops in the area.

Just to get a sense of the different selling prices I walked into 4 stores - and got four different cash offers for a full sovereign, from £225 to £231 to the best price - £235 from Lois Jewellery / Bullion on Frederick St   Simple transaction, and I then went in search of something interesting to buy at a quarter ounce. Happy to say I found a nice Aussie proof nugget elsewhere from 1986, so it was a well worth looking around. As an aside I found it amazing that so many jewellery / bullion stores can all survive in business, so I guess they must have a worldwide client base. Nice village feel to the whole area - even though it's only a mile from the city centre.  Suffice to say I am now a fan!

I know it's a favourite of many on the Forum, and I have bought also from them, but I have not yet made it out to Atkinsons as they are not in the jewellery quarter - so can't comment on them...

Here is a pic of the 1986 nugget.  I actually got the full boxed proof set last year luckily enough, but I like them so much it will be nice to have this one to compare to the other quarters / sovereigns.

HH

They deal in big volumes of sovereigns, meaning real big ...so the price to sell (to them) is good.  When I compared online to HGM they had a better price, OK - admittedly just by a few £ but still.  Highly recommended. And very polite, no nonsense.
