Collecting Mexican Libertads Proof | BU

UKSILVERCOINS

Recommended Posts

I have recently fallen in love with the design after purchasing a uncirculated first year 1982 Libertad from the states for £25.

Having looked through the mintage figures I think I will start getting what I can as it seems collectors are more interested in other official minted silver BU & Proof coins.

Any serious collectors here?

Found a dealer in the states who has previously sold quite a few Proofs. Working on getting a 2009 2oz Proof (5000 mintage) sent over here for £74 including shipping + £17 import charges.

Also got my eye on a 2007 2oz BU (8000 mintage) on sale for £55 but I'm pushing for £40.

Silber corner have a mixed range of 1oz libertads for 17.82 euros you might be lucky and get a scarce date among them.

The problem with common sense is, its not that common.

I am a big fan of the libertad design. I hope to get a kilo libertad in the future, and might even venture more into the world of proofs and get a proof libertad as well, I think a proof libertad would be stunning.

Will post if I pick up that 2oz Proof at the end of this month

Check out the seller on ebay.com he has several 2009 2oz proofs listed, I know him from another forum, email him for a deal , ppg and basic postage. I have about 80% of all libertads 1/20 -5oz. In sets and individual coins, both in proof and bu .

Dave would be great to see some photographs of the proofs 1/2oz - 5oz together in this thread.

Did you manage to source any Libertads minted in 1998?

I think that's the same seller I have seen. What kind of discount did you get off ebay price?

I'm looking forward to getting my 1994 proof kilo kookaburra,i know it will be stunning as I have the 2ozer proof and it is my favourite kook design.

The 1998 1oz proof that I bought is a graded 69, mintage on 5 oz bu 1998 is 3500 .(polish dealer has very high prices) The 1oz 1998 bu can be picked up for €90-100 on ebay.de normally cheaper than ebay.com. I did have pics on here somewhere , but I put them in the wrong section, not very good with computer and pictures . But will try to get some up when one of my sons visits , 2 oz 2009 proof from USA seller should get for 75-80 dollars with ppg and basic postage. Contact him

Cheers for the inforation Dave.

Have a bit more time now, if your serious about the libertads, my advice is to pick up the 2013 proofs now (boxed 5 coin fractional sets with coa mintage of 1000, hold the best money) , while they are still cheap, budget for the 2014 proofs when they come out in end June . Start your 1oz proof collection by picking up the 1986 87,89,90,91,92,93,coins in boxes mintage of 5000-30000 still can be had for reasonable money. Only buy the best. Best coins to collect are 5 coin fractional sets, 1 oz proof and bu, 2 oz proof and bu. 5oz coins have a limited collector base compared with other sizes . Keep away from gilded and coloured crap, no value to a collector. Keep a lookout also for early 1992 - onwards 5 coin fractional sets bu, try to get sets with coins still in sealed plastic mint wrapping. Any help just ask

I really like this Mexican Libertad-type medal that has the traditional winged Angel on the left side of the obverse and the Aztec calendar as the background behind the Angel. It is a 1oz Silver Proof medal which I believe was issued at the Mexican Mint for service to employees there.

Looks very similar to the Mexican 1oz 2000 D.C. Millennium Silver Proof medal issued in 2000 to commemorate the arrival of the New Millennium.

Both are finished Proof / Matte and .925 Silver.

Mintage figures for 2000 Millennium Silver Proof is 100,000. Can't find any mintage figures for the Aztec - Winged Angel Silver Proof.

7 coin proof libertad set, the biggest thing to hit the libertad market EVER, limited mintage of 250 sets , official coa and box, this set will fly in the European markets, but i doubt many will reach Europe . Will be snapped up by American buyers. If you get a chance ,buy one
