Anybody collect scrap silver?

If I could find them cheaply than I would, then I would get them cast into sterling bars. But I think most people with old scrap silver have already sold it to these cash for gold type of places. Would be hard to find someone selling some, though maybe something springs up occasionally on gumtree. I think there would be too many bidders on eBay to buy for a good price, as they are many bidders who are aware of it's actual value based on silver content who are activity looking to try to purchase scrap for around spot.

My posts are my personal opinions, they do not constitute advice or financial advice.

I love scrap silver and used to have a load of it. It seemed easier a couple of years ago to get hold of stuff under spot. There's a guy in Hatton garden who pays 97% of spot for scrap so I take piles to him when I have enough and swap out for coins - which is illogical in a way because I'm getting less silver but it's more condensed. I thought about getting it cast and assayed but it didn't really make sense because the scrap already had hallmark and people trust them more than some mint stamping 925 on a block of silver

No scrap for me, my head would explode with all the odd bits and peaces, I like things to match and stack neatly.

Yes I'm a bit odd

Not at all. I like my silver to require no extra work once I've got it. Coins and bars will do nicely. Sod sorting through scrap and melting things down.
