fakes getting better

apart from the obvious it's too thick to fit into correct sized capsules,

the visual likeness is crazy. (he made a mistake at 2.32, the thickness

should be 2.8mm making the coin too thick, not too thin. this makes

sense as copper is less dense than silver so needs the extra volume

to make coin weigh the correct 1oz)

Wait I am confused, you say it should be 2.8mm? Do you mean 2.08mm?

atkinsons has it at 2.8mm thick.

3.27mm as on the fake is too thick.

in terms of the measuring method, I use a ruler, but are calipers actualy necessary to measure the coins? Are the fakes that good that they get it to the nearest 1mm?

failing magnet test is sufficient to raise suspicion.

it also looks like someone tried to cram it into the

correct capsule and made breaks on the capsule

as a result.

With modern year silver bullion coin like this, wouldn't it always be cheaper from a dealer? if it's cheaper on Ebay you know somethings up straight away

are out of stock and you mostly only have photos on ebay

to work with.

Indeed, but you would of thought they would wait a couple years to bother faking something for this reason.

Well spotted

It should have a S or M mint mark shouldn't it as none were minted in London that year 

Maybe just a case of using the wrong picture? or if it's a pic of the actual coin then it must be a fake right? 

I'm too much of a noob to be able to tell if it's fake just from judging the details in the picture.

It's pretty good. The only thing that hits me is the lettering on the obverse just "looks wrong", the R in Victoria is very wrong.

(the right side of each 't' is longer than the left)

You're right.

There are actually 3 different versions of "R" on the obverse. I've never noticed that on a sov before.

It could be two different coins and just one with a funny obverse.

I don't know about the other coins, but the sovereign looks comical

All fake of course except possibly the  7.5kg lot.

Some of them are quite good, would be interesting to know what they're made of.

The thing is, some of them are very good. If they made them in gold and roughed them up a bit, they would fool a lot of people.

Their big mistake is selling several all at the same time, one of which, as Kman pointed out, is a joke coin!
