Group Buys

Being quite new to the forums i am wondering how these Group Buys work? If anyone can explain this too me and other new members i would find this most helpful.

Basically, somebody takes the lead and makes a big order on everybody's behalf.

Then when it's delivered, passes it on to the other group buyers.

Payment usually upfront pre order.

OK like Danny says.

For example if you wanted to do a group buy on our products, you would take the lead.

1, get a quote on the product - delivered price, say $20 pound sterling for instance.

2, take orders from members and work out how much it will cost to ship it to them.

3, they pay you the $20 per oz and shipping charges to them say $5 for example. $25.00

4, You pay us in one payment, we ship to your address.

5, You ship the goods to all the buyers.

Simple.

A lot of trust involved in such an undertaking. I think i will make some individual trades to establish myself before thinking about taking the lead.

Agreed SEH, plenty of trust is required when holding other peoples cash.

But it has been done before, and it has worked well.

May I ask what you had in mind for the group buy?

The Bullet bullion, Jekyll island and some perth mint stuff.

Just be careful with group buys; a large order might get a heavy VAT tax hit when entering the UK. The bigger the order the more probable that will be. And also collecting money my via bank transfer. I wouldn't want a lot of transfers from unknown people going to my UK account that's for sure.

Agreed on the VAT, I'd be more up for group buys in the EU.

But I'd be very happy to accept bank transfers from unknown people into my account, in fact I'd actively encourage it!!!!

I only will do group buys with well known people on this forum, who are active on posts. However that is if I am paying them for a product which is a very unlikely situation as I normally purchase in bulk. I do not mind people paying me, any random stranger via paypal gift or so as only harm that can be done if the company messes up and the shipment gets lost.

Not a group buy as such.  I am making an order for some 1oz Gairsoppa rounds from the US later this week.  Price after exchange rate, Fedex delivery, customs clearance charge and 20% VAT will be £20 landed with me.  All you have to pay for is postage to yourself which will be £1 by 1st class large letter.  £1.10 extra for Signed-For.  If anyone wants to add onto my order, let me know.
