Great picture. Not all things are created equal.

Shiny, rippled, dull...

Premium, mass produced, hand poured.

Germany, Switzerland and someone's backyard :D

I'd like to own them all, but 2 out of 3 ain't bad. :P

It's a shame the 100g is stamped rather than cast.

Which 100g bar?  :P

Seriously, I never had thought about all the lettering and numbers on these poured bars were cast individually/uniquely. Thought  they were all stamped?

Crossed lines Rich, the 100g bars are stamped. The bigger ones are cast.

edit: it's the fault of the terminology. The 100g bars are stamped out of sheet, the lettering/numbering on the bigger cast bars is stamped :)

whoops, photo only thread. Sorry mods, kindly remove

Nice selection. The JB portrait doesn't photograph well?

Morning I'm not sure if right place for writing this topic. I have just ordered a 2018 proof gold £2 coin from the Royal mint, it's a Captain Cook only 350 mintage and only for 2018/2019/2020.

I'm unsure if this series will take off but I liked the design, the mintage, not the price so much but hopefully will get the money back in the future.

Anyone like the coin. Or bad decision, saying that I do like it as said above.

Cheers gazer.

This weekend I all of a sudden remembered that I had some silver in possession long before I started stacking. It doesn't properly fit in any other categories I think so I put it in this topic. I think it's special enough to share with you all.

It is the first ever silver postage stamp worldwide. There are enough comparable items nowadays, but this was an actual stamp you could use. (could be used for registered mail) It was the last Dutch guilders only stamp (that's why they wanted to make something special). The stamps after this were both in euros and guilders. The value is NLG 12.75 which coverts to 5.70 euros. Nowadays you can find it for less online (from about 5 euros), so wouldn't have been a good investment (like all the other stamps I have...).

  • Minted at the Royal Dutch Mint.
  • 999 silver
  • 21 x 25 x 0,1 mm
  • mintage 1 million (not rare at all...)
  • Fun exercise: it's 52.5 mm3 or 0.0525 cm3. With the specific weight of 10.5 grams per cm3 that should be 0.55125 grams. So at the current silve price a value of 23.6 eurocents. Put against the original value of 5.70 euros that's a premium of 2,320%. :)

The edges are tarnished, probably partly due to me handling it with my fingers (forgive me, I was young). However, what I've seen even the ones in sealed packaging have tarnished on the edges by now.

Some of the photographs on here are quite stunning and reflect a real ability with the camera. Perhaps there’s a call for even more creativity in this area.

Most of the photographs are of fairly traditional designs .....any new ones out there? Perhaps we could have different threads than the traditional Britannia....as much as I truly love and admire this design....?

Very nice - nice cooling lines. i think i recognise the bar - did you buy it on the forum?

Always cast your vote - Spoil your ballot slip. Put 'Spoilt Ballot - I do not consent.' These votes are counted. If you do not do this you are consenting to the tyranny. None of them are fit for purpose.
A tyranny relies on propaganda and force. Once the propaganda fails all that's left is force.
