Hi Everyone

Just joined your forum as i'm having trouble identifying something I bought from an auction today. I've attached a pic, if anyone can help i'd be really grateful. I can only find this ebay item 360936341505 - is it the same item just a bit beaten up? i'm as sure as i can be that it is silver.

Thanks all

Adam

Well it says it's silver on it, that's a good start - I doubt rounds like that would be fake, or there would be more info on the web.

What tests have you performed? Without known weight, diameter and thickness values I guess your only arsenal is SG test and magnetism.

Hi, Thanks for the reply.  Yeah only tested using a rare earth magnet.  I'm pretty sure its silver, bought it in an auction with a couple of  other silver coins,  Its 1oz.  is it normal to find a round and then not be able to find anything about them online?

I had one, but somebody on here found details of it even though I searched for ages.

The truth will come out, and this thread is where it will happen [emoji1]

There are a whole bunch of rounds / coins minted, probably hundreds of thousands of different ones, info on specifics can take some finding.

Can't help you identifying it, other than it's definitely a round and not a coin as coins are legal tender and have denominations on.

Some people collect rounds specifically, there is a he variety of different obscure rounds. In the US a lot of casinos make/made them and people collect them. Some rounds are produced in such small quantities and very little info is available about them.

Hopefully someone else comes forward and can be more useful than I was. And welcome to the forum :)

Anyone had any luck tracing this round yet? any chance of a close up of the makers mark Adam? Most of the 100 year commemorative coins/rounds don't show the actual sinking, maybe its part of a small run of ship themed rounds with the somewhat generic Ocean Liners side? It's not keeping me awake at night yet, age does that all on its own, but I am curious to know.

Here is another pic, its as good as I can do tonight as its a bit dark.

I think the initials are S R H or S R N ?

I also forgot to say that I bought it with some other coins dated 1998 including a 1998 Liberian Titanic.  So maybe its from around that year.

That's great Adam thanks, and I'm a Mr Hook, Mrs Hook has absolutely no interest in silver unless she is exchanging it for shoes and/or clothes, age, unfortunately, has not withered her passion for shopping. I was guessing your round was part of the 2012 glut of commemorative rounds/coins issued, but it could well be any date. Iv'e only seen one other design depicting the actual sinking, similar to yours but with obvious differences, most of the others show the Titanic still afloat. Thanks for the extra info and i'll let you know if I find anything.

edit. As well as being in significantly worse condition than yours the ebay coin has a 999 on the ships wheel between the two O's which appears lacking on yours?
