Can anyone tell me this isn't the most beautiful coin they've ever seen? The legendary Victoria 1847 Gothic Crown.

Agreed,an amazing coin. But at the price for a top grade example it needs to be.

Not so sure, old sterling silver coins in mint condition have an amazing colour and lustre to them, gold can't compete.

 

On reflection, though, the sight of a perfect Vicky sovereign comes close. It would have to a proof in gold to reveal the level of detail in that coin.

I have to agree I was smitten with the gothic crown at first glance. The price though...have to pawn a kidney or something.

I do like that. In particular, the obverse is so much better than the bland offering we get today, especially the Canadian one.

I saw a nice one go for under a grand a few weeks ago at auction, it was advertised as EF and looked it on the photo I saw.

I thought about it but managed to stop myself as I probably couldn't have afforded it and the missus was with me anyway!

That is a really nice grade, but in person a lower grade still looks very good and costs about a tenth of that asking price!

very nice obverse as you say but it's well overpriced considering the wear on the reverse.
