Hiding PM's from the wife

My girlfriend knows exactly what I spend on precious metals, she doesn't mind at all because she agrees that it is not spending money, it is simply transferring money into another form of money. She isn't so keen on the illiquidity of it though.

When my stack becomes a serious size she wants me to convert some of it to property, which is my idea anyway as property generates income and precious metals does not. She agrees with me that however wealthy we become it is still a good idea to keep 10% or so of our wealth in precious metals, just for security.

(Note: my girlfriend is also my business partner, so it helps that she is very business minded, otherwise she might not have been so keen on the whole silver and gold thing)

I also don't regard all of my stack as a pure investment. Parts of it I want to keep as they are clearly a collection, and I will probably never sell.

One big advantage of stacking is converting liquid cash into an asset that can be kept under the bed.

Once the money has been 'invested' it's not there anymore for the wife to badger on about spending on useless stuff like days out and holidays, not to mention a new summer wardrobe because some pillock on TV or QVC has changed this season's look and colour.
