postage question

do all bullion dealers use  signed for packages? with tracking details

on our estate we always have post going to the avenue instead of the crescent or the road  or even the drive

indeed my tax return from my accountant hasn't turned up and he says hes posted it and a second copy , both which I haven't received

so therefore what would happen if a bullion company didn't use signed for parcels and it went to a different address , where do we stand/

Under the distance selling regs, they are responsible for the item all the way to your door.  If it doesn't reach you then they have to sort it out.

Low value bullion is usually sent by Signed-For.  High value stuff is usually sent by Special since that comes with compensation upto £500 and can be increased to £2500 where necessary.

That's why they all choose tracked delivery as standard or allow the purchaser to pick regular postage (only very few do this) with a very clear 'buyer beware' caveat attached, it saves them hassle from lost packages or - more likely - claims of lost packages.

Tracked works both ways, you know they sent it and they know you received it so you can't claim a refund for not getting it.

Chards still has that on their website but I don't think you can even choose that option during checkout anymore.  Once upon a time before the distance selling regs came into force it could have been used but I suspect they can't be bothered changing all their web pages with it being such a mess.

I would be wary buying from any bullion dealer with a "buyer beware" clause in the postage options.  The distance selling regs trumps any clause which they put in.
