Gold seems to be a good price, but as with all of my PM purchases - if it goes lower, it's an opportunity to buy more. I'm in it for the very VERY long haul so I've got plenty of time to wait. Tbh if anyone stacks PMs then that's probably their goal, not necessarily looking to hit every peak and trough (it's the dream) but looking to hit one a long time in the future.

I need to buy more gold though to take advantage of any peaks.

True, true, but the idea of having *something* which is sellable if the price is right than a whole pile you can't bear to sell is a problem that I know I need to address myself.

But roughly it feels like to me gold has just found a nice equilibrium where there either aren't enough or not significant enough economic events (bizarrely) in the world going on and you're not seeing massive gains or losses which you'd expect considering ISIS/Ukraine. Presumably either the market is being fixed or they're seen as regional rather than global events.

I remember seeing sovs selling for £300sh, that's the sort of thing I'm holding for.

I really don't want gold to move much for at least a decade, I just havn't bought enough of it yet.

I won't be happy until I've bought at least 250 gold sovereigns.  Well, 250 worth in a mix of halves and fulls. I'm only on 11 worth at the moment, so I've still got a way to go.

Well 250 sovs over 15 years is only 16 or 17 a year. I've been stacking since April and I have 5 sovs, 12 half sovs, along with 250 oz's of silver to date. Ok I won't be buying as much over the winter as my income does drop during the winter months. But 250 sovs and 4,000 oz's of silver is doable for me.

Although as it gets closer to my retirement in 15-20 years time, I will be exchanging all my silver into gold, really just for ease in selling and storage. After all, being a pensioner and having to hide/store/ and then lug around to the nearest bullion dealer, 124 kilos of silver is just not practical. But 5 kilos or so of gold is much more manageable in both storage and selling on.

So I will really be looking at once I've sold my silver and converted it into Sovs, about 500 sovs in total.

I can fit those in to only 9 or 10 of these little albums

And no this isn't mine, But I hope I will soon have one just like it. I've only filled 3 pages of my first album so far :)

Certainly think that's a fine storage medium HT!

I like sovs, for resale in the UK I don't think you can get a better coin than a sovereign, but I couldn't have *all* sovereigns! there's so many nice 1/4ozers which sit in the same size & price category (usually) it'd be a shame to avoid them!

Anyone seen the Dads Army episode 'the misers hoard'? I imagine that's what HT is like! Stacking all his sovereigns in piles in front of him and not putting any money into banks ;)

If I can buy any 1/4ozers for less than spot + 5% or 6% I'll be buying them as well. But unless you are lucky on ebay, or get them private you are relying on companies like HGM to source them. And unfortunately they don't stay unsold for long.

LOL. Just found that episode online,

" And I'll be able to buy two more golden sovereigns, that'll make it, let me see, 100, 200, 300, 400, 500,............... 504.............which in present currency is valued at £3102 and 4 shillings  . "

post-140-0-15165700-1410131451_thumb.jpg

Just checked the maths. ...3102.2 / 504 = £6 3' 1d per sov

but at the start of the war Gold was around £7 an oz. so 504 x 8g = 4032 / 31.1 = 129.64oz x £7 is only £907, not £3000. Oh well

I've given up listening to "experts" on their predictions of future PM prices. Half on them say PM's will go up by the end of the year, the other half say they will fall by the end of the year. Oh and you get those excitable silver chaps from the good ol USA on youtube telling the world that PM's are going to "shoot to the moon"

Why can't everyone be honest, hold their hands up and say they havn't got a scooby
