According to the BBC News report today copied here -

A seaside town is bracing itself for a gold-rush after a German artist buried £10,000 worth of bullion on a beach as part of an arts festival.

Michael Sailstorfer has hidden thirty 24-carat gold bars on Folkestone's Outer Harbour beach.

People are being encouraged to dig for the gold after low tide at 16:00 BST. Organisers say fortune hunters will be able to keep any bars they find.

The Folkestone Digs project is part of the town's triennial arts festival.

I used to manage a shop in Folkestone. If I was still there, I'd have got extra staff in to cover for me, and I'd be down there like a shot with me bucket and spade. :D

That's pretty fun

If I lived in the area and had a metal detector id pop down

Hopefully some families go, would be very charming for children to find the treasure.

Knowing Folkestone like I do, the beach will be cordoned off by large groups of Eastern Europeans.  :(
