Bullion Dealer Finds - Sleepers

Just wondering, do all the large bullion dealers have people / a person in-house, who have the expertise to identify rare coins, or occasionally do any sleepers get through the net. I would be interested to hear if anyone got a real bargain from a bullion dealer.

Some do, some definitely don't. 

I've had one in the last year, bought at Spot + 3% and after grading it's now worth in excess of £5,000.

Other year I asked a dealer if they had any 2002/2005 sovereigns, told me they had some 2002, I ended up buying a full and double sovereign @ bullion price which turned out to be proof

The full has scratches and finger prints, double just has finger prints, so that worked out well

HGM used to sell great stuff at very reasonable premiums when spot was low, I bought a double 1887 sov for 3% premium, but I fear those days are long gone

I do pick up deals from time to time, just last week picked up a rare Cyprus Half Sovereign - at spot plus 3% and sold for double that. 

Once picked up a full 2002 proof set at spot and did really well out of that too.

I bought two 1997 proof sovereigns almost at spot (don't remember the exact gold price then) just a few weeks ago.

Thinking about grading them: One each at NGC and PCGS, just to see what happens...

i think a few people got some bargains when HGM changed their computer system and were selling coins below spot for a couple hours
